Lab Technician

We are seeking to appoint a Laboratory Technician on a six-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover. The successful candidate will support the Science Department by preparing laboratory equipment and materials, maintaining health and safety standards, and assisting teachers with practical lessons.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects.
• Offer professional guidance, assistance, and support to students and teachers on the practical aspects of the curriculum.
• To provide technical advice and support on safety and health issues to teaching staff and students.
• Designing, constructing and modifying apparatus.
• Preparing standard solutions.
• Setting up and caring for plant and animal collections.
• Purifying chemicals and treating waste.
• To ensure the cleaning and maintenance of laboratories and associated apparatus.
• To ensure the safe storage and accessibility of equipment, materials, and apparatus after use.
• To ensure that both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing, and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard.
• To ensure safe treatment and disposal of used/waste materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A Diploma or higher in a relevant subject area.
• High School Certificate or a certificate of equivalence.
• Minimum of 2–5 years in secondary section as Lab Technician.
