Job Description

Aluminium Site / Workshop Supervisor – Multi-Tasking

Position Summary

The Aluminium Site / Workshop Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating aluminium fabrication, assembly, installation, and workshop activities. The position requires strong technical knowledge of aluminium works, the ability to read drawings, manage workers, coordinate site activities, monitor quality and safety, and perform multiple tasks to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and within the required timeframes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Site Supervision

  • Supervise and coordinate aluminium installation works at construction sites.
  • Organise daily activities and allocate manpower according to project requirements.
  • Monitor workers and subcontractors to ensure work is carried out correctly and efficiently.
  • Ensure aluminium windows, doors, curtain walls, façades, louvers, partitions, shopfronts and other aluminium systems are installed according to approved drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with Site Engineers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and other trades on site.
  • Monitor daily progress and report any delays, technical issues or site constraints.

2. Workshop Supervision

  • Supervise aluminium fabrication and assembly activities in the workshop.
  • Allocate work to fabricators and ensure production targets are achieved.
  • Check cutting, machining, drilling, routing, assembly and finishing of aluminium sections.
  • Ensure correct use of profiles, accessories, hardware, glass, gaskets, sealants and other materials.
  • Minimise material wastage and ensure proper handling and storage of aluminium materials.
  • Ensure fabricated items are properly labelled and prepared for delivery to site.

3. Technical & Drawing Interpretation

  • Read and interpret architectural, fabrication and installation drawings.
  • Verify dimensions and measurements before fabrication and installation.
  • Identify discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions and report them to the relevant engineer or manager.
  • Assist with site measurements, setting-out and preparation of cutting/fabrication requirements.
  • Ensure fabrication and installation are carried out according to approved drawings and specifications.

4. Quality Control

  • Inspect completed aluminium fabrication and installation works.
  • Ensure proper alignment, levels, dimensions, fixing, sealing and finishing.
  • Check that all hardware and accessories are correctly installed and functioning.
  • Identify defects and arrange corrective works where necessary.
  • Ensure finished works meet company and project quality standards.

5. Manpower & Multi-Tasking

  • Supervise and guide aluminium fabricators, installers, helpers and other workers.
  • Manage multiple activities simultaneously between the workshop and construction sites.
  • Assist workers with technical and practical problems when required.
  • Take responsibility for urgent site and workshop requirements.
  • Support other departments when required to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Perform hands-on aluminium fabrication or installation works when necessary.

6. Materials & Tools

  • Monitor the availability of aluminium profiles, accessories, hardware, glass, sealants and consumables.
  • Prepare material requirements and inform management of shortages.
  • Check materials received against required specifications and quantities.
  • Ensure proper care, storage and handling of materials.
  • Monitor the use and condition of workshop tools and equipment.
  • Report damaged, missing or defective tools and equipment.

7. Health & Safety

  • Ensure all workers comply with company health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is used at all times.
  • Monitor safe working practices in the workshop and on construction sites.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and safe storage of materials and tools.
  • Report accidents, incidents, unsafe conditions and hazards immediately.
  • Ensure workers follow site safety requirements, particularly when working at height or using machinery.

8. Site Coordination

  • Coordinate with other trades to avoid conflicts and delays.
  • Liaise with site representatives regarding access, measurements, installation sequences and work schedules.
  • Coordinate delivery and unloading of aluminium materials and finished products.
  • Ensure materials and fabricated items are available when required on site.
  • Assist with site inspections and client/consultant requirements.

9. Progress Reporting

  • Maintain daily records of manpower, production and installation progress.
  • Report completed works, outstanding works and site issues to management.
  • Provide regular updates on workshop production and site installation.
  • Inform management immediately of any issue that may affect project cost, quality or completion dates.

10. Maintenance & After-Sales Support

  • Attend to defects, adjustments, repairs and maintenance of aluminium installations when required.
  • Assist with replacement or rectification of damaged components.
  • Coordinate warranty and snagging works.
  • Ensure all outstanding/snagging items are completed within the required timeframe.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain discipline and good working practices among workers.
  • Ensure punctuality and efficient use of working hours.
  • Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping at the workshop and work sites.
  • Protect company property, materials, tools and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company and project information.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by management in line with the position and operational requirements.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Good knowledge of aluminium fabrication and installation.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and architectural drawings.
  • Ability to take accurate site measurements.
  • Knowledge of aluminium profiles, hardware, accessories, glazing and sealants.
  • Good knowledge of workshop machinery and hand tools.
  • Strong leadership and manpower management skills.

Overall Objective

The Aluminium Site / Workshop Supervisor shall ensure that aluminium fabrication, workshop production and site installation works are properly planned, supervised and completed safely, efficiently, to the required quality standards and within the agreed project programme.
