The Senior Accounts Officer shall be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the accounting department of the company to ensure inter alia:
• The completeness, accuracy and accounting of revenue streams
• The completeness, accuracy and accounting and validation of operational expenses in the nature of staff costs, cost of sales, administrative expenses.
The preparation of annual budget, monthly management accounts (drawing attention to management on variances), annual financial statements and reporting and preparation of all returns required for compliance (MRA, etc.)
Financial Management
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts including the balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports from system and closure of system
• Assist in the preparation of the financial statements in line with IFRS and IAS
• Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
• Review Monthly Profit & Loss items and investigate on variances and wrong postings
• Bank reconciliations to be done monthly
• Backup for Cash Position to prepare on a weekly basis
• Daily reconciliations of some special GL accounts
• Daily controls check and monitoring
• Daily posting of journal entries
• Daily cash desk checks and controls
• Other balance sheet items weekly reconciliations including accruals and prepayments
• Run the monthly close of the accounts and meet the deadline in place
• Monthly preparation of the VAT return
• Monthly reconciliation of turnover to VAT returns
• Intercompany accounts reconciliation on a weekly basis
• Creation of debtors and supplier accounts
• Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology
• Prepare forms and manuals for accounting and bookkeeping personnel, and direct their work activities
• Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses
• Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
• Initiate payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Directing the work of accounts officers and ensure adequate planning in place to meet deadlines and quality targets.
• Reports to the Accountant/Group Accountant on a daily basis and discuss issues which need attention
Other Compliance Matters
• Liaise with external auditors, internal auditor, company secretaries, government authorities, MRA, so that the company is in line with legal and regulatory compliance.
Any other assignments as may be delegated
