About the Opportunity

At Dayforce, we are modernizing Powerpay, our Canadian payroll and human capital management solution, by building scalable, cloud-native applications using modern technologies.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Senior Software Developer who is passionate about software engineering, problem-solving, and delivering high-quality solutions.

You will contribute to Powerpay's modernization journey using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, AWS, and AI-powered development tools.

We value developers who take ownership of their work, demonstrate strong technical reasoning, and continuously look for ways to improve development efficiency and software quality.

What You'll Get to Do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Contribute to modernizing existing applications and transitioning functionality to cloud-native architectures.
• Take ownership of development tasks, from technical design through implementation and delivery.
• Apply object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, and clean coding practices.
• Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, architects, DevOps, and Product Owners.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and Agile ceremonies.
• Write unit and integration tests to ensure software reliability.
• Investigate defects, troubleshoot complex issues, and improve application performance.
• Support junior developers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve coding, testing, and troubleshooting efficiency.

Skills and Experience We Value

Backend Development

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, preferably Java 17 or later.
• Experience developing applications using Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, DB2, or SQL Server.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Cloud and Engineering Practices

• Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud platforms.
• Understanding of cloud-native applications and containerization using Docker.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a development team.
• Good communication skills and a strong sense of ownership.

AI-Assisted Software Development

You will actively support Powerpay's modernization journey, collaborate effectively with the team, and make responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and software quality.
