Location: Various sites across Mauritius

The General Construction Company Limited (GCC) is seeking an experienced Senior Site Supervisor (General Foreman) to join its Projects & Site Operations team and oversee daily construction activities across its building and civil engineering projects in Mauritius, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Site Planning & Work Execution: Organise daily construction activities, allocate tasks, and ensure work progresses according to project schedules and approved methods.
• Workforce Supervision & Leadership: Supervise Site Supervisors, Leading Hands, construction workers, and trade crews; monitor productivity, maintain site discipline, and ensure daily targets are achieved.
• Quality Control: Inspect ongoing and completed works against approved drawings and quality standards, identify defects, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
• Health & Safety: Enforce site safety procedures, ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), identify hazards, and stop unsafe work when necessary.
• Materials, Plant & Equipment: Coordinate material requirements with the Storekeeper and site management, monitor the use of materials and equipment, and minimise wastage and damage.
• Progress & Resource Monitoring: Monitor daily work progress, workforce deployment, and subcontractor activities; identify delays, resource shortages, and operational constraints.
• Site Records & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of workforce attendance, labour allocation, and completed activities, and report progress and operational issues to site management.
• Site Coordination: Coordinate activities between different trades and subcontractors, liaise with relevant internal departments, and ensure work is properly sequenced to minimise delays and rework.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience: 5–7 years of site supervision experience in building or civil construction, including 2–3 years in a Senior Site Supervisor or General Foreman role.
• Education: A Diploma in Civil Engineering, Building and Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent recognised technical qualification is an advantage.
• Technical Knowledge: Good ability to read and interpret construction drawings, with a sound understanding of construction methods, materials, and site operations.
• Health & Safety: Practical knowledge of site safety procedures, hazard identification, and risk prevention.
• Leadership & Communication: Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to lead teams and coordinate subcontractors effectively.
• Languages: Good command of English, French, and Mauritian Creole. Basic spoken Hindi is an advantage.
• Software: Basic knowledge of MS Office and the ability to read AutoCAD drawings.
• Mobility: A valid Mauritian driving license is mandatory, with flexibility for island-wide site deployments.
