ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting for our client, a well-established and growing Mauritian business group with interests across several specialised business sectors.

The Group Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial reporting activities of the holding company and its subsidiaries. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, sound financial controls, effective cash-flow management and compliance across the organisation.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the position will provide financial support and analysis to Management and contribute to the continued strengthening of financial processes and governance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Group Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Manage and maintain accurate accounting records for the holding company and coordinate accounting activities across subsidiaries.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statements.
  • Review journals, accruals, provisions, prepayments and depreciation.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accurate and timely month-end closing.
  • Provide Management with financial analysis, including profitability, cash flow and budget-versus-actual performance.

Group Consolidation & Intercompany Accounting

  • Manage intercompany accounting and monthly reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between Group entities.
  • Maintain schedules relating to intercompany loans, advances, management fees and other transactions.
  • Assist with Group consolidation and elimination of intercompany balances where applicable.

Cash Flow & Treasury

  • Monitor the cash position of the organisation and its subsidiaries.
  • Prepare rolling cash-flow forecasts.
  • Monitor receipts, payments, bank balances and funding requirements.
  • Prepare payment schedules and ensure appropriate financial controls over payments.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Assist Management with the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor actual performance against approved budgets.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis and provide explanations for significant deviations.
  • Support financial modelling and business planning activities.

Tax, Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure timely compliance with applicable tax and statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate tax submissions and monitor relevant deadlines.
  • Liaise with the Mauritius Revenue Authority and other authorities when required.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit process and liaise with external auditors.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation and follow up on audit recommendations.

Financial Controls & Process Improvement

  • Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate authorisation and documentation of financial transactions.
  • Identify weaknesses in existing processes and recommend improvements.
  • Support the automation and enhancement of accounting and financial reporting processes.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of financial information.

Management Support

  • Provide financial analysis and advice to the Managing Director and senior management.
  • Prepare financial reports and information for Board meetings.
  • Support financial feasibility studies, due diligence exercises, financing arrangements and other corporate projects.
  • Provide financial input for strategic and operational decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Fully qualified Accountant, preferably ACCA, ACA or equivalent.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience.
  • Experience within a Group, holding company or multi-company environment will be an advantage.
  • Strong experience in management accounts and financial reporting.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and IFRS.
  • Sound knowledge of taxation and statutory compliance in Mauritius.
  • Experience in intercompany accounting, reconciliations and Group reporting.
  • Experience coordinating external audits.
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills.

Experience within financial services, insurance, professional services or a diversified business environment would be considered an advantage.
