Job Description
Our client in the finance services and insurance is seeking to recruit a Senior Officer - Health Insurance who will be responsible for providing technical advice, managing underwriting transactions and complementing the claims process for health insurance. The role involves client and intermediary arrangement, assisting with quotations, underwriting and claims processing. The incumbent will ensure accurate claims provisions, manage interactions with Third Party Administrators (TPAs) and contribute to data compilation and reporting. The Supervising Officer - Health Insurance must ensure compliance with underwriting and claims guidelines while supporting the overall growth and retention of the health insurance portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Review systems, work procedures and guidelines to ensure effectiveness of internal controls and to identify ways and means to work more efficiently.
- Supervise and monitor set KPI of subordinates.
- Ensure that good relationships are maintained with all business relations, whether internal or external, and that team spirit is maintained within the Department.
- Provide the appropriate support and on-the-job training to the junior staff.
- Ensure that the targets for the department are met (topline and bottom line).
- Attend to clients and intermediaries and provide technical advice regarding the scope and extent of their insurance requirements for simple/standard risks and to assist with more complex risks.
- Approve major quotations and responses to tenders.
- Assist in medical underwriting of risks.
- Approve underwriting transactions in the IT system and sign documents as authorized.
- Approve claim requisitions in the IT system and sign requisitions in accordance with Approval Authority Instructions.
- Assist in the day-to-day running of the department.
- Ensure that all targets set are met within defined timeframes.
- Assist in recovery of premium in arrears.
- Assist in the compilation of data and statistical reports.
- Conduct presentations to corporate clients.
- Assist in addressing any IT issues regarding the IT system.
- Assist in reinsurance treaty review and negotiations.
- Attend cases before Courts of Law when required.
- Ensure that operations are carried out in compliance with insurance legislation and with the relevant Codes and Guidelines issued by the FSC and by the Ombudsman for Financial Services.
- Perform any other cognate duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department and/or Senior Management.
Main Technical Requirements
- A Degree holder, preferably in a science field, with a minimum of 4 years' relevant working experience in a supervisory role in the medical sector.
- Three subjects at A-level with a minimum of 10 years' experience in medical underwriting and/or claims handling, including application of the Common Scale of Cost.
- In-depth understanding of common health insurance practices, concepts and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel & Word).
- Good rapport building and interpersonal skills with strong negotiating and influencing skills.
- Meticulous with keen attention to details and service oriented.
- Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative while working effectively within a team.
- Ability to solve problems effectively in a complex environment and make decisions that benefit the business while serving the customer.
