We’re hiring a Team Leader – Credit Control to drive debt recovery, minimize financial risk, and lead a high-performing team. You’ll manage overdue accounts, implement credit policies, and collaborate across departments to ensure smooth cash flow.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Credit Control and Debt Collection:
- Assist the Head of Credit Control to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive credit control procedures to minimize bad debt, optimize cash flow, and protect the company's financial interests.
- Analyze debtor data, including credit history, payment patterns, and financial statements, to identify potential credit risks and proactively implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Assist in developing and implementing effective strategies for collecting outstanding debts, utilizing a range of techniques such as negotiation, payment plans, and collection letters.
- Effectively communicate with customers, responding promptly to inquiries, addressing concerns, and negotiating mutually agreeable payment arrangements.
- Escalate unresolved debt issues to the Head of Credit Control, providing detailed documentation and recommendations for further action.
- Monitor Intermediaries & customer accounts on a weekly basis to recover overdue premiums and take necessary actions.
- Process journal entries and debtors' adjustments and assist with month end debtors' reconciliation.
- Work with the finance team to optimize cash flow by reducing outstanding receivables and minimizing bad debt losses.
- Participate in credit review meetings with senior management, to discuss on credit policies and performance.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Attend court cases related to non-recovery of outstanding premium, whenever required.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare comprehensive and timely reports on debtor performance, collection trends, aging analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze debtor data to identify areas for improvement in credit control and debt collection processes, recommending strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce bad debt, and optimize cash flow.
- Provide valuable insights and recommendations to senior management on strategies for optimizing debtor management, ensuring alignment with the company's overall financial objectives.
- Stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to debtor management, credit control, and debt collection.
Leadership and Team Management:
- Assist the Head of Credit Control in providing leadership and direction to the debtors' team, aligning individual and team goals with the overall objectives of the accounts receivable department and the company as a whole.
- Assist the Head of Credit Control to foster a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented work environment that motivates and empowers team members to achieve their full potential.
- Identify the needs and discuss with the Head of Credit Control for implementation of effective training and development programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the complexities of debt collection and credit control.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members, identifying areas for improvement and recognizing individual contributions.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring workload is distributed evenly and team members are working on projects aligned with their strengths and expertise.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- Professional certification (Partly or fully qualified) will be an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience in credit control, preferably in the insurance sector.
