The Senior Accounts Officer is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the different services’ projects, including budgeting, forecasting, auditing and financial reporting.
- 1. Financial Management
- Prepare and maintain budgets, monitor expenditure and provide reports on financial status.
- Ensure accurate recording of costs associated with equipment, materials, labour and other project-related expenses.
- Conduct monthly, quarterly and annually financial reconciliations for various accounts.
2. Project Accounting
- Track and manage costs for on-going projects, ensuring they stay in budget.
- Liaise with project managers to review projects’ budgets, timelines and financial projections.
- Process invoices, purchase orders and payments for suppliers and subcontractors.
- Review contracts and agreements related to project finances to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- 3. Financial Reporting
- Generate detailed financial statements (P&L, balance sheet etc) and reports for Management
- Prepare periodic financial reports and dashboards
- 4. Internal Controls and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS) and relevant financial regulations
5. Cash Flow Management
- Assist in the cash flow management, including accounts receivable and payable, to maintain the financial health of the Company.
- Assist in the forecasts of the cash flow needs and ensure timely collection of payments from clients and stakeholders.
- 6. Tax and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage tax-related tasks such as VAT filings, tax returns and other financial obligations.
- Coordinate with auditors during external audits and ensure timely submission of required documents and reports.
- 7. Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, delegating tasks as necessary to junior staff.
- 8. Stakeholder Communication
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership, project engineers, procurement team and external vendors.
- Present financial data and insights in an understandable format to non-financial stakeholders.
Key Skills and Qualifications
1.Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (ACCA Level 2 on-going)
- 1. Experience
- At least 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably within the mechanical and engineering sector.
- Experience in handling large-scale project finances, managing budgets and reporting
- 2. Technical Skills
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of project accounting, cost allocation and financial forecasting
3. Knowledge of Industry-Specific Needs
- Knowledge of procurement and supply chain management
- Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and tax requirements
- 4. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and present actionable insights
- Ability to identify discrepancies or inefficiencies in financial operations and recommend improvements
