The Remittance Officer will assist in ensuring the efficient daily operation of the Remittances department whilst ensuring high client service levels, security and safety in accordance with the Bank's objectives.
- Ensure that the department’s daily operations and financial activities are in compliance with the Bank's policies and procedures
- Processing of Inward & Outward Remittance transactions on core banking system in line with agreed tariffs
- Process end of day Outward T/Ts instructions and ensure swift messages have been sent and correspondent cut-off times are adhered to
- Check the incoming switch messages – MT 103, MT 202, MT 910, MT 300 (currency, value dates, foreign banks, if Nostro a/c accredited, a/c no, name, address, etc.)
- Follow up on queries for payment orders that cannot be processed and ensure due diligence have been carried out
- Attend to queries/requests in a timely and accurate manner to meet stakeholders' expectations.
- Attending to pending items on Nostro and payment platforms for outward payments
- Make full use of new softwares to gear the department into a paperless environment.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, applying this knowledge to ensure compliance in all remittance-related activities
- Adopt proper records management principles as defined by the bank in terms of upkeep and filing of transactions
- Ensure that reconciliation is done on time and all outstanding items are cleared within the next business day
- Ensure timely return of reporting
- Perform any other related duties, as may be assigned.
Technical and Soft Competencies/Skills, Knowledge
- A passionate and motivated individual with a growth mindset and customer-focused
- Knowledge of the banking or other financial sector and Core Banking System will be an added advantage
- Excellent documentation and process management skills
- Displays high levels of integrity, objectivity and impartiality and commit to high professional ethical standards
- Sound knowledge of the banking business and operations
- Efficient and accurate processing of operational functions with strong sense of accuracy
- Strong Stakeholder relationship management and negotiation skills
- Strong Planning, Negotiation and Communication skills
Experience & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Operations Management or in any related field acceptable to the Bank
- Minimum of 1-year experience in an operations management role or any similar position acceptable to the Bank
