The Programme Leader will lead the department/cluster with the planning of exisiting programmes, strategically identifying courses to be offered, liaise with stakeholders, work on articulation to higher courses, ensure quality assurance of the courses delivered among others

 

Post:Programme Leader (Soft Skills and Languages)

Duration:                  Contractual basis for two years, may be considered for permanent

and pensionable establishment upon satisfactory completion of contractual employment

Salary:Rs 42,325 – 66,650

(Negotiable on the basis of qualification and experience)

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Languages/ Social Sciences or a related field from a recognised institution or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board.

A Master’s degree in Languages  and or related field from a recognised institution or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board.

 

Experience:

  • At least five years post qualification experience in Languages and Soft skills

including at least three years in middle and/ or senior management level

  • Experience in developing, delivery and implementation of Soft Skills and

Language course preferably in a tertiary environment.

 

Candidates should:

  • be proactive and have the ability to work under pressure;
  • possess good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • be conversant with modern developments in the field of Soft Skills, Languages, translation and education;
  • be able to inspire students in the development of soft skills;
  • possess good analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • possess management and supervisory skills; and
  • be able to use and advise on the use of ICT tools in the delivery of courses.

 

Candidates should produce written evidence of experience/knowledge claimed.

 

Duties:   

  1. To be responsible to the Chief Executive Officer/ Chief Academic Affairs Officer or as delegated.
  2. To assist the PML Management inter alia in the following:
  • formulating and maintaining procedures for the delivery of Soft Skills, Languages and/ or related programmes;
  • implementing and coordinating decisions taken by management in the delivery of Soft Skills and Languages programmes;
  • formulating and implementing plans for manpower development and training;
  • liaising with partners (local, regional and international) in enabling Soft Skills, Languages and/ or related programmes to be developed and offered.

 

3. To prepare detailed training programmes in consultation with the other

teaching staff, stakeholders from the Soft Skills and Languages field in Mauritius, external collaborators and other authorities and to keep appropriate records thereof.

4. To maintain liaison and lines of communication with Industry stakeholders for the placement of students.

5. To promote and participate in the organisation of programmes, events, and activities aimed at enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in Soft Skills and Languages.

6. To conduct courses and demonstrate Soft Skills and Languages articulation.

7. To participate in basic, post-basic as well as in-service training of personnel.

8. To prepare and invigilate examinations and tests and assess and grade students.

9. To integrate technology in the teaching and learning process.

10. To provide, under supervision, as and when required, advice and information on matters relating to delivery of courses.

11. To draft and prepare agenda, minutes and reports in relation to the cluster.

12. To supervise and provide guidance to staff working under his/her responsibility and coordinate the work of other staff.

13. To help in the administration of the Polytechnic, e.g. taking charge of the library, records, safe keeping of equipment, instruments, stores and other articles, whenever required.

14. To carry out evaluation and quality assurance of teaching programmes.

15. To use ICT in the performance of his/her duties.

16. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Programme Leader Soft Skills and Languages in the roles ascribed to him/her.

Note:

  • The Programme Leader Soft Skills and Languages shall have a primary interest in the whole training function. He/she should therefore devote all his/her attention to the students.
  • The Programme Leader Soft Skills and Languages may be called to work on Saturdays/ Sundays and public holidays.
