First Capital Shared Services Limited (FCSSL) was incorporated on the 2nd of April 2018 in Mauritius and is a subsidiary of FMBCapital Holdings Plc (FMBCH). FCSSL serves as a Center of Excellence for all Group countries (Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe), providing support for key functions such as Technology, Treasury, Trade, Back-Office Operations, Risk and Compliance.

With offices in Ebene, FCSSL has a current staff complement of more than 90 specialists with vast experience within critical banking support functions. As an independent entity, the Centre works closely with country operations in the deployment of quality products and services that strengthen and support the Group Strategy to create customer value. As the bank and its customers embrace digitalization, the Product Owner for Mobile Banking is a key role which is responsible for defining the product vision, prioritizing features and driving development of a user-centric mobile banking solution that aligns with business objectives. This role is integral to driving digital transformation within the bank, ensuring a competitive edge and delivering superior customer experiences.

The role holder should be a dynamic and visionary individual, capable of leading the development and commercialization of our mobile banking platform. The role holder will manage and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, marketers, business leaders and other stakeholders, to deliver a world-class, innovative, and scalable mobile banking experience that our customers need. The role holder will be a strategic thinker with a strong background in digital product management, customer experience enhancement, a deep understanding of emerging digital trends and experience in managing development teams.

Strategic Planning and Roadmap Development             

  • Define the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for FCB’s mobile banking app.
  • Align product goals with the bank’s overall business objectives, ensuring value delivery to customers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with country teams to achieve the Mobile Banking P&L ambitions.

Requirement Gathering & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify needs and translate them into actionable requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding product updates, milestones, and priorities.
  • Communicate the product vision to stakeholders, ensuring alignment across departments.

Product Backlog Management      

  • Prioritize the product backlog, ensuring the development team works on the highest-value features.
  • Support the development team write detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and workflows to guide development activities.
  • Manage the new feature requests pipeline, balancing customer needs, compliance requirements, and technical feasibility.
Collaboration with Development Teams
  • Directly supervise the Development, QA, and UX/UI teams to deliver a high-quality product/app.
  • Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives, providing clear direction and feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Scrum Master to ensure smooth operations and adherence to Agile principles.

 Customer Experience & Innovation

  • Nurture ideas and solutions to existing customer problems
  • Champion an intuitive, user-friendly designs, working closely with UX/UI teams.
  • Stay updated with trends in banking, mobile technologies, and customer behaviours to propose innovative features.

Regulatory Compliance & Security           

  • Ensure all products meet regulatory standards and security requirements for banking software.
  • Collaborate with the legal and compliance teams to address data privacy and financial regulations.
  • Identify potential risks in the development lifecycle and implement mitigation strategies.

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor product performance metrics and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement iterative improvements and new features based on analytics and user feedback.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the team.

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Degree in business, computers or related field.
  • Overall, 8 years of working experience in the banking or financial services sector.
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role, with a strong track record of successfully managing the lifecycle of digital products or services
  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies and digital product lifecycle management.
  • Relevant certifications would be beneficial e.g., certified scrum product owner.

Knowledge, Expertise and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.
  • Solid knowledge of digital banking trends and user-centered design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use data for decision-making.
  • Creative and innovative thinker, coupled with strong attention to detail
  • Managing conflicting priorities from multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of UX/UI principles and digital platform technologies.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks in banking.
