We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Paralegal/Legal Assistant to support our legal team across multiple sectors, including IT, aesthetics/clinics, management company, agriculture, governance, ESG, and compliance. The role involves assisting with legal research, drafting documents, regulatory compliance, contract management, and corporate governance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Mauritian laws and regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Legal Research & Documentation:
- Conduct legal research on corporate, compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Prepare legal documents, contracts, agreements, and reports.
- Assist in drafting pleadings, legal opinions, and other legal correspondence.
2. Corporate & Commercial Law Support:
- Assist with the incorporation, registration, and administration of companies.
- Prepare board resolutions, shareholder agreements, and meeting minutes.
- Ensure compliance with the Companies Act, Financial Services Act, and other applicable laws.
3. Regulatory & Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with AML/CFT (Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism) regulations.
- Assist in preparing reports for regulatory bodies such as the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and the Data Protection Office.
- Maintain compliance records and assist in legal audits.
4. Contract Management:
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts related to IT services, clinical operations, agriculture supply chains, and corporate governance.
- Maintain a contract database and track deadlines for renewals and compliance checks.
5. Litigation & Dispute Resolution:
- Assist in case preparation, compiling evidence, and drafting legal submissions.
- Liaise with external legal counsel, courts, and regulatory authorities.
- Monitor litigation deadlines and maintain case records.
6. Governance & ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Compliance:
- Support the implementation of ESG policies and governance frameworks.
- Conduct risk assessments and impact analysis for sustainability compliance.
- Ensure adherence to corporate governance best practices.
7. Administrative & Support Functions:
- Manage legal correspondence, filing, and document control.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and clients.
- Schedule meetings, take minutes, and prepare reports for the legal team.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Law, Legal Studies, or related field.
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or in a legal/compliance role.
- Knowledge:Strong understanding of Mauritian corporate, regulatory, and compliance laws. Experience with contract drafting and legal research. Familiarity with AML, GDPR, and corporate governance regulations is an advantage.
- Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong research and analytical abilities. High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, legal databases, and document management systems.
