Job Description

1. Occupational Safety and Health – Mauritius Office

a)  carry out regular occupational safety and health audits to identify risks to safety and health

b)   assess the need for preventive measures to safeguard the safety and health of employees and any other person not in the employment Huawei

c)   advise the management in writing on practicable measures and appropriate techniques to be implemented to minimize any risk in any process in the undertaking of Huawei

d)  design and implement appropriate training programs to meet the requirements of the Mauritius Occupational Safety and Health Act 2005 (updated 2013) and any other enactment dealing with occupational safety and health, and keep proper records thereof

e) review any measure, method, procedure or technique adopted to ensure occupational safety and health at intervals of not more than 2 years or at such intervals per the OSH act

f)  recommend in writing to the management, appropriate occupational safety and health programs, where the circumstances so justify

g) develop effective communication systems on occupational safety and health between the management and any employee (EHS committee)

h)  inspect all places of work under his responsibility at least once every month and record his findings in an appropriate checklist

i)  exercise adequate supervision to ensure the effective implementation of arrangements made, and preventive measures taken, by the management; and

j)  enquire into:

     i .  all complaints made by an employee;

     ii. occupational accidents and dangerous occurrences at any place of work and make a report thereon, and recommend in writing any safety and health measures to be implemented by the management

2. Quality, Environment, Health and Safety Compliance

a)  Ensure that company third party accreditations ISO 9001, ISO 45001 management system and any forthcoming management systems are obtained and maintained

b) Ensure reports are provided to Top Management to improve the effectiveness and performance of the Quality, Environment and Health & Safety management system

c) Ensure awareness of customer requirements throughout the organisation

d) Ensure that applicable legislative and other requirements are taken into account for implementing and maintaining the Quality, Environment and Health & Safety management system. (A legal consultant may be appointed with legal auditing and identification of legislative requirements)

e)  Coordinate external audits with certification bodies and regulatory agencies.

f) Maintain documentation related to the QMS, including quality manuals, processes, and procedures.

g) Collaborate with department heads to establish appropriate quality objectives and targets.

h) Coordinate the internal Quality, Environment and Health & Safety management auditing program and improvement processes

i)  Coordinate, monitor and report incidents, accidents, corrective and preventive action

j) Liaise with external parties such as certification bodies and clients on matters pertaining to the Quality, Environment and Health & Safety management system

k)  Keep up-to-date with changes in ISO standards and ensure compliance with any updates.

3. Occupational Safety and Health Support to Business Units

a)  Assessing risk and possible safety hazards of all aspects of operations in the different Business Units and recommend corrective and preventive measures; and update the Risk treatment Plan (RTP)

b)  Creating safety plans that include suggested improvements to existing infrastructure – office, dormitory, kitchen, customer sites of works etc.

c) Participating in continuing education to update knowledge of health and safety protocols and techniques of internal staff and external suppliers

  i.  Presenting safety and health principles to staff in meetings or lecture-type training sessions

  ii. Presenting safety and health principles to supplier resources in meetings or lecture-type training sessions

d)  Investigating causes of accidents and other unsafe conditions on the job site

e)  Liaising with law enforcement and other investigators who are present at the time of a serious accident and finding the best way to prevent future accidents

Qualifications :

  • Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (Mandatory)
  • Registered with the Occupational Safety and Health - Ministry of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training - to practice as Safety and Health officer

Job requirements
