Job Title: Health and Safety Officer
Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all health and safety regulations are strictly adhered to, and for promoting a culture of safety across the park. This role requires a thorough understanding of local regulations, namely OSHA 2005, Environmental Protection Act 2002, Food Act 1998 and be familiar with standards like ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001, , as well as experience in managing safety in outdoor and adventure settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA 2005 and other relevant regulations and standards.
- Ensure all policies are communicated effectively to all staff members.
Risk Assessments:
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits of all park activities, facilities, and equipment.
- Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures to prevent accidents and injuries.
Fire Safety Management:
- Develop and implement fire safety protocols, including the installation and maintenance of fire-fighting equipment.
- Organize regular fire drills to ensure staff and visitors are prepared for emergencies.
Safety Training and Orientation:
- Provide comprehensive safety training and orientation for all staff.
- Ensure employees are fully aware of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all local health and safety regulations, including OSHA 2005. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance audits.
- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory authorities.
Incident Investigation:
- Investigate any accidents or incidents to determine causes, document findings, and recommend preventive measures.
- Ensure thorough documentation and follow-up actions are taken.
Health and Safety Committees:
- Establish and lead health and safety committees, conducting regular meetings to review safety performance and address concerns.
- Encourage active participation from all employees in safety initiatives.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid response, and crisis management strategies.
- Ensure that emergency response equipment is accessible and in good working condition.
Continuous Improvement:
- Collaborate with HODs and management to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Implement new safety initiatives and stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments and best practices in health and safety.
Communication:
- Foster open communication about safety concerns and encourage reporting of potential hazards.
- Conduct regular safety briefings and meetings with staff to discuss safety performance and updates.
Health and Welfare:
- Ensure that adequate sanitary and welfare facilities are provided and maintained for all employees and visitors.
Qualifications:
- Diploma/ Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, , or a related field.
- Certification in OSHA 2005 or other Health and Safety standards.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in an outdoor or adventure park setting.
- Strong knowledge of local health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations and write detailed reports.
