The incumbent main objectives include but not limited to the designing, developing, and maintaining of GIS applications and databases that support land use planning, resource management, and environmental analysis.

 

The incumbent main objectives include but not limited to the designing, developing, and maintaining of GIS applications and databases that support land use planning, resource management, and environmental analysis. The GIS Developer will also be called upon to collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide geospatial solutions that enhance decision-making processes and for Cadastral / valuation purposes.

Main Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain GIS applications and tools to support land management initiatives.
  • Create and manage geospatial databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Collaborate with the Development team, planner and other stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver effective GIS solutions.
  • Analyse spatial data and generate maps, reports, and visualizations to aid in land use planning and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical support and training for staff on GIS software and tools.
  • Stay updated on GIS technologies and best practices to enhance departmental capabilities.
  • Operate advanced survey instruments while establishing survey control, setting of survey Control Marks and gathering of field data;
  • Ensure that survey instruments are in proper working condition, keeping such equipment clean and report any malfunction or faults in survey equipment;
  • Utilise CAD software to perform coordinate geometry computations and drafting for preparation/review of land survey plans or documents;
  • Research, analyse, and interpret evidence to determine land boundary locations, retrace survey maps and land descriptions;
  • Keep proper records of field books, survey notes and any other field notes for proper traceability and checks of survey field work;
  • Use GIS software for updating, editing and querying of Terra Cadastre & Smart City Companies (Land Use Map, Cadastral Map, Valuation Asset, Property & Assets Register, utility Reticulations, Smart City management
Qualifications & Competencies required: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics or any related field.
  • Proven experience in GIS development and application programming (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, JavaScript, BIM).
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on data visualisation and spatial analysis.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Familiarity with land management policies and environmental regulations is a plus.
