Our client, a company in the boiler industry specialised in boiler engineering and industrial water treatment, belonging to a renowned group in Mauritius, is seeking to recruit a Chemical Engineer who will report to the General Manager.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for designing and implementing water treatment solutions for boiler systems, analysing water conditions, and supplying chemical products to ensure optimal boiler performance and efficiency, while also developing the company's chemical department to drive growth and profitability. 

Responsibilities:

Technical:
  • Perform water quality testing and analysis of boiler feedwater and condensate to identify treatment requirements.
  • Design and specify water treatment solutions for boiler systems, including chemical dosing systems, filtration systems, and other treatment technologies.
  • Develop and implement water treatment programs to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to water quality, boiler performance, and steam system operation.
  • Collaborate with R&D to develop new products and technologies for the water treatment market.
  • Conduct site visits to inspect water treatment systems, identify issues, and recommend solutions.
Business Developmetn and Relationships:
  • Identify new business opportunities in the water treatment market and develop strategies to pursue them.
  • Develop strategies to grow the chemical department's revenue and profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling of chemical products with other company products or services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop integrated solutions for customers.

Project Management:
  • Take a proactive role in overseeing the entire lifecycle of projects from initial conception through to successful completion.
  • Ensure that all projects are executed within established budgets by performing regular financial analyses and cost management, identifying potential risks, and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards throughout the project duration, ensuring that all activities align with health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
  • Utilise project management tools and methodologies to maintain detailed documentation and reporting, providing updates to senior management and stakeholders on project status, achievements, and any adjustments.

Chemical Product Supply:
  • Source and supply high-quality chemicals for water treatment applications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with chemical suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for chemical product labelling, storage, and handling.
  • Provide technical support to customers on chemical product usage and application.
  • Stay up to date with industry developments, new technologies, and regulatory changes affecting the boiler industry.
  • Participate in industry events, conferences, and training programs to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
 
Profile:
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering / Water Engineering or similar field.
  • Having work experience in Chemical Engineering, Water Engineering, Water Treatment. Experience in boiler systems would be an advantage.
  • Ms Office Skills.
  • Specific skills in water Treatment Process Design / Steam System Analysis and Troubleshooting / Chemical Engineering Principles and Applications / Project Management.
  • Ability to identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to pursue them.
  • Good communication and Problem-Solving.
  • Teamwork and adaptability.
  • Valid Driving License.

Technical Competencies:
  • Water treatment processes, water chemistry, and steam systems, water treatment technologies and processes.
  • Familiarity with chemical engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of steam systems, including boiler design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Analyse and troubleshoot issues related to boiler performance, water quality, and steam system.
  • Ability to design and optimize water treatment processes for boiler systems.
