The Accountant is responsible for managing the financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and internal controls. The role involves preparing financial statements, analyzing financial data, managing budgeting processes, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate financial records, including ledgers, journals, and reports.
- Ensure all transactions are properly recorded and classified in the correct accounts.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement).
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements such as tax returns, VAT, and other regulatory filings.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in preparing the company's annual budget.
- Analyze actual financial performance versus the budget and provide explanations for variances.
- Prepare forecasts and provide insights for decision-making.
- Prepare weekly/monthly cash flow forecasts
- Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate billing, collections, and payments to vendors.
- Perform account reconciliations.
- Audit and Compliance:
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
- Taxation:
- Prepare and submit tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Assist with tax planning and ensure timely payments.
- Cost Analysis and Control:
- Conduct cost analysis and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
- Ensure efficient allocation of resources and manage cost control strategies.
- Other Duties:
- Collaborate with other departments for financial analysis and reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of Audit committee and board packs.
- Participate in the digitalisation of finance processes.
- Provide financial insights to support business decisions.
- Support ad-hoc financial projects as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an accountant or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).
- Proficiency in accounting software
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work with large amounts of data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional certification (CA, ACCA, or similar) is preferred.
