Commercial Manager - Construction & Material Handling (Kenya)

As part of its commercial expansion project in East Africa planned for 2025, our Client is looking for dynamic and experienced professionals to take on the commercial responsibility of a local office.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Management:

  • Lead and motivate a team of around ten staff members, ensuring both individual and collective performance.
  • Ensure the team’s training, career development, and support to maintain high engagement and efficiency.
  • Organize follow-up meetings, define operational goals, and regularly evaluate team performance.

2. Financial Management:

  • Supervise the profit and loss account of the area, analyzing performance and adjusting strategies to meet financial targets.
  • Implement tracking tools for profitability and commercial performance.
  • Analyze variances between forecasts and results and suggest continuous improvement measures.

3. Debt and Client Management:

  • Closely monitor customer debts.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual/credit terms.
  • Oversee the proper use of financing facilities in place.

4. Stock and Replenishment Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels and restocking processes.
  • Place orders for products for both sales and project needs.
  • Optimize stock levels and manage critical thresholds.
  • Follow up on logistics, customs clearance, transportation, and distribution.

5. Commercial Activity Development:

  • Oversee daily sales activities, ensuring efficient sales processes and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement targeted actions to drive growth in strategic segments (residential, commercial, industrial).
  • Develop new business opportunities through proactive market and customer trend monitoring.

6. Project Development:

  • Prospect new markets in the construction sector.
  • Build new partnerships with construction companies in the region.
  • Ensure visibility with local stakeholders, such as consultants, architects, and interior designers.
  • Identify growth levers, whether through new projects or the enhancement of existing ones.
  • Collaborate with technical and operational teams to ensure successful project delivery.

7. Relationship Management:

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with all stakeholders: clients, suppliers, local partners, and institutions.
  • Act as the key contact for all economic stakeholders in the region and safeguard the company's reputation.
  • Ensure clear and transparent communication within the team and with other departments.

 8. Implementation of Commercial Strategy:

  • Define and implement the commercial strategy in alignment with the regional manager’s directives while adapting to local market specifics.
  • Adjust the commercial approach based on market needs, trends, and customer demands.
  • Monitor strategy execution and adjust actions based on performance outcomes.

9. Sales Monitoring and Commercial Actions:

  • Track key commercial performance indicators (KPIs) with regular reporting to management.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions and action plans to optimize results.
  • Launch promotional and communication campaigns to stimulate demand and increase brand visibility.

10. Client Prospecting and Development:

  • Identify potential new clients and design prospecting strategies adapted to the East African market.
  • Develop long-term strategic partnerships by seizing regional opportunities and maximizing market penetration.
  • Implement loyalty initiatives to retain existing customers and grow the company’s market share.

Desired Profile:

  • Significant experience in commercial management, ideally in the industrial, residential, or commercial sectors—preferably in East Africa.
  • Knowledge of electricity and/or technical-commercial experience is a plus.
  • Strong team management and P&L management skills.
  • Experience with inventory and debt management.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and international environment, with sound understanding of East African business dynamics.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a strong results-driven mindset.
  • Proficiency in commercial tracking and management tools, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or in large-scale project management is an advantage.
