Job Description
1. Job Purpose
The Electrician is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and continuous operation of the resort's electrical installations, equipment and systems through preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repairs.
The position supports the uninterrupted operation of guest rooms, villas, restaurants, kitchens, spa, public areas, offices and back-of-house facilities, while maintaining the safety, quality and service standards expected of a luxury resort.
2. Key Duties & Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical installations and equipment throughout the resort.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electrical faults efficiently.
- Inspect and maintain lighting systems, switches, sockets, circuit breakers, electrical panels and distribution boards.
- Repair or replace defective electrical components using approved procedures.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests.
- Ensure electrical installations remain safe and operational at all times.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive measures.
Guest Rooms & Villas
- Attend promptly to electrical maintenance requests in guest rooms and villas.
- Troubleshoot lighting, power supply, switches, sockets and electrical equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections in rooms and villas.
- Ensure all work is completed neatly and with minimum disturbance to guests.
- Maintain discretion and professional behaviour when entering occupied guest areas.
- Coordinate with Front Office and Housekeeping regarding room maintenance and return-to-service requirements.
Public Areas & Resort Facilities
- Inspect and maintain electrical installations in restaurants, kitchens, spa, offices, staff facilities and public areas.
- Maintain external lighting, garden lighting, pathways and other resort electrical installations.
- Ensure lighting standards throughout guest and operational areas are maintained.
- Respond rapidly to electrical faults that may affect guest experience or hotel operations.
Plant & Engineering Equipment
- Assist in the maintenance and inspection of generators and backup electrical systems.
- Inspect electrical components associated with pumps, motors, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
- Support maintenance of electrical components of kitchen, laundry, spa and other operational equipment.
- Check electrical panels and distribution systems for abnormal conditions.
- Assist in testing emergency lighting and backup power systems.
- Coordinate with approved external contractors when specialised intervention is required.
Preventive Maintenance
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance according to the Engineering Department's maintenance programme.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify potential failures before breakdown occurs.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance and repairs.
- Report equipment defects and recurring technical problems to the Chief Engineer.
- Ensure work orders are properly completed and closed after intervention.
- Maintain tools and electrical testing equipment in good working condition.
Energy & Cost Control
- Support the resort's energy conservation initiatives.
- Identify unnecessary electricity consumption and report abnormalities.
- Recommend practical measures to improve electrical efficiency where appropriate.
- Use spare parts and materials responsibly.
- Assist in controlling maintenance costs and unnecessary equipment replacement.
- Maintain appropriate electrical spare-parts levels and report requirements to the supervisor.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Strictly follow electrical safety procedures and applicable regulations.
- Apply appropriate electrical isolation and lockout/tagout procedures before commencing work.
- Use appropriate PPE and approved insulated tools.
- Use electrical testing equipment correctly.
- Do not undertake electrical work beyond the employee's level of competence or legal authorisation.
- Immediately report unsafe electrical installations or potential fire hazards.
- Maintain work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Participate in emergency procedures, fire safety drills and safety training.
Guest Service & Teamwork
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest-related maintenance requests.
- Maintain a courteous and service-oriented approach when interacting with guests.
- Minimise noise and disruption when carrying out maintenance.
- Coordinate effectively with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B, Kitchen, Spa, Security and other departments.
- Maintain professional grooming and conduct according to Shanti Maurice standards.
- Attend departmental meetings and technical training when required.
- Perform any other reasonable technical duties assigned by the Chief Engineer or Management within the employee's competence.
3. Qualifications & Experience
- Recognised Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of relevant electrical maintenance experience preferred.
- Previous experience within a 4- or 5-star hotel/resort environment would be an advantage.
- Good knowledge of electrical installations, distribution systems, lighting, motors and pumps.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults.
- Ability to read basic electrical drawings and diagrams.
- Competence in using electrical testing instruments.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of occupational health and electrical safety requirements.
- Any licence, registration or authorisation legally required for the electrical work assigned to the position.
- Flexible to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and emergency call-outs where required.
