Job Description
The HR Officer supports the effective day-to-day delivery of People Operations activities at Heritage Awali, ensuring that employees receive timely HR support and that all HR processes are managed accurately, consistently and in line with company policies and applicable labour legislation.
The role acts as a key point of contact for Team Members and operational departments, supporting employee administration, recruitment, onboarding, attendance, leave, employee relations and HR reporting.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR documentation.
- Prepare and process HR-related documents, letters, certificates and correspondence.
- Ensure personnel files are complete and properly maintained.
- Update HR systems with employee movements, transfers, promotions, changes in status and other relevant information.
- Support the preparation of regular HR reports and statistics.
2. Recruitment & Onboarding
- Coordinate recruitment activities in collaboration with the HR/People Operations team and hiring managers.
- Screen applications and coordinate interviews with shortlisted candidates.
- Prepare recruitment documentation and follow up on pre-employment requirements.
- Coordinate onboarding and induction of new Team Members.
- Ensure new joiners complete the required documentation and HR formalities within the prescribed timelines.
- Maintain accurate recruitment and onboarding records.
3. Attendance, Leave & Time Management
- Monitor attendance and support the timely resolution of attendance discrepancies.
- Assist with leave administration, including annual leave, sick leave and other statutory/company leave.
- Follow up with departments regarding missing or incomplete attendance information.
- Support payroll preparation by ensuring relevant HR information is accurate and submitted within deadlines.
4. Employee Relations
- Act as a first point of contact for Team Members on routine HR matters.
- Support the HR Manager in handling employee relations matters, investigations and disciplinary processes.
- Maintain proper documentation and confidentiality in relation to employee relations cases.
- Follow up on employee concerns and ensure matters are escalated appropriately where required.
5. Team Member Engagement & Communication
- Support HR initiatives, Team Member activities and engagement programmes.
- Assist in communicating HR policies, procedures, initiatives and important information to Team Members.
- Support employee recognition, welfare and wellbeing initiatives.
- Maintain a professional and approachable relationship with Team Members and management.
6. Compliance & HR Controls
- Ensure HR processes are carried out in accordance with company policies and applicable Mauritian employment legislation.
- Support internal and external HR audits by ensuring required documentation is available and properly maintained.
- Monitor compliance with HR procedures and follow up on outstanding documentation.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee information and HR records.
7. HR Reporting & Projects
- Prepare HR reports, trackers and statistics as required.
- Assist with manpower and headcount monitoring.
- Support HR projects and initiatives assigned by the People Operations Manager / HR Manager.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR processes and systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably within the hospitality industry.
- Experience in a hotel/resort environment will be an advantage.
- Good knowledge of HR administration and employment practices.
- Working knowledge of Mauritian labour legislation and HR compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Experience with HRIS/PMS or attendance management systems is an advantage.
