JOB DESCRIPTION – PORTER / DRIVER

Department: Front Office / Reception
Position: Porter / Driver
Reports To: Front Office Manager / Assistant Front Office Manager
Location: Shanti Maurice Resort & Spa

Job Purpose

The Porter / Driver is responsible for providing a warm, professional and personalized welcome and departure experience to all guests in accordance with Shanti Maurice’s five-star service standards. The role includes handling and delivering guest luggage to and from rooms and villas, driving Resort buggies, providing guest transportation and supporting the Front Office team throughout the guest journey.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests warmly upon arrival and provide professional assistance from the moment they reach the Resort.
  • Collect guest luggage from vehicles upon arrival and ensure it is handled carefully and securely.
  • Transport and deliver guest luggage directly to the guest’s room or villa in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collect luggage directly from guest rooms or villas upon departure and transport it safely to Reception or the departure vehicle.
  • Escort guests to their rooms or villas when required and assist them throughout the arrival process.
  • Properly tag, store, retrieve and deliver luggage, ensuring that guest belongings are never left unattended in an unsecured area.
  • Handle all guest belongings with the highest level of care and immediately report any loss, damage or incident.
  • Drive Resort buggies to transport guests and their luggage safely between Reception, rooms, villas, restaurants, Spa and other areas of the Resort.
  • Assist guests when boarding and leaving buggies, with particular attention to children, elderly guests and guests requiring additional assistance.
  • Ensure luggage is safely positioned and secured when transported by buggy.
  • Operate buggies safely, respecting Resort speed limits, designated routes, pedestrians and all internal safety procedures.
  • Drive hotel vehicles for airport transfers, guest transportation, excursions and other authorized journeys when required.
  • Ensure a safe, comfortable and professional driving experience for guests at all times.
  • Ensure that all assigned vehicles and buggies are clean, presentable, charged or fuelled and ready for operation.
  • Carry out basic daily checks of vehicles and buggies and immediately report any defect, damage or maintenance requirement.
  • Coordinate closely with Reception regarding daily arrivals, departures, room movements, luggage requirements and scheduled guest transfers.
  • Be attentive to guest requests and communicate any special request, complaint or concern promptly to Reception or the appropriate department.
  • Maintain good knowledge of the Resort’s rooms and villas, restaurants, Spa, activities, facilities, operating hours and services.
  • Provide guests with accurate information and directions within the Resort when required.
  • Maintain good knowledge of Mauritius, including major tourist attractions, airport routes and key destinations.
  • Work closely with Reception, Guest Relations, Concierge, Housekeeping, Security and other departments to ensure a smooth guest experience.
  • Maintain guest privacy, discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain impeccable grooming, hygiene and uniform standards in accordance with Shanti Maurice’s five-star standards.
  • Demonstrate professional behaviour, courtesy, attentiveness and appropriate body language at all times.
  • Assist the Front Office team with other reasonable operational duties when required.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by the Front Office Manager, Assistant Front Office Manager or Management.

Health, Safety & Security

  • Ensure the safe handling and transportation of guest luggage and belongings.
  • Drive all Resort vehicles and buggies responsibly and with the safety and comfort of guests as the first priority.
  • Comply with road traffic regulations and Resort safety procedures.
  • Immediately report any accident, vehicle or buggy damage, lost luggage, guest incident or safety concern.
  • Comply with all Resort Health & Safety, Security and emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • Valid Mauritius driving licence appropriate for the vehicles operated.
  • Previous experience as a Porter, Bell Attendant, Driver or similar guest-facing position, preferably within a four- or five-star hotel or resort.
  • Ability to drive Resort buggies safely and confidently.
  • Good knowledge of Mauritius roads and main destinations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and French; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Physically fit and able to safely lift, carry and transport guest luggage.
  • Professional appearance with excellent grooming standards.
  • Honest, reliable, punctual and service-oriented.
  • Flexible to work shifts, weekends and public holidays according to operational requirements.
