Role Purpose:
- Develop and execute trade marketing strategies and activations to drive brand visibility, sales, and market share.
- Bridge the gap between marketing and commercial teams, ensuring effective implementation of brand and promotional activities at the point of purchase (POP).
Key Responsibilities:
Trade Marketing Strategy:
- Develop and execute the trade marketing activation strategy to align with the overall marketing and commercial objectives.
- Plan, manage, and implement trade marketing campaigns, product launches, and in-store activations.
- Work with commercial teams to identify growth opportunities through tailored trade promotions and category management.
In-store Activations & Promotions:
- Lead the design and execution of in-store displays, point-of-purchase (POP) materials, and promotions to enhance product visibility.
- Collaborate with retailers and distributors to plan and execute trade promotions, ensuring alignment with both brand and retailer objectives.
- Monitor the effectiveness of trade marketing initiatives and optimize activations based on performance data.
Budget & Resource Management:
- Manage the trade marketing budget, ensuring that all initiatives are cost-effective and within allocated resources.
- Ensure timely delivery of all marketing materials and activations, working with procurement and external suppliers.
- Track and report on ROI for all trade marketing campaigns and promotional activities.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the channel and brand marketing teams to align trade marketing strategies with overall business objectives.
- Collaborate with channel teams and retail partners to ensure tailored solutions that drive shelf presence and category leadership.
- Ensure that the commercial team has the necessary tools, training, and collateral to execute trade marketing initiatives at the point of sale.
Market & Consumer/Shopper Insights:
- Conduct market analysis and gather consumer/shopper insights to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges within the trade environment.
- Monitor competitor activities and industry trends to keep strategies relevant and competitive.
- Provide recommendations based on trade performance data to inform future marketing strategies and business decisions.
Merchandising & POS Optimization:
- Develop merchandising standards and guidelines for retail displays, ensuring consistent brand presence across channels.
- Oversee the installation and maintenance of POS materials and ensure alignment with brand guidelines.
- Optimize product placements and promotional displays to enhance sales performance and brand visibility.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Track and analyse the performance of trade marketing activities and provide regular reports on key metrics such as sales uplift, customer engagement, and ROI.
- Utilize sales data, shopper insights, and market research to refine strategies and improve future campaigns.
Role Requirements:
Trade Marketing Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in trade marketing, shopper marketing, or sales within the FMCG industry.
- Proven experience in executing in-store activations, promotions, and trade marketing campaigns that drive sales growth.
- Strong knowledge of the FMCG retail landscape, including experience working with supermarkets, wholesalers, and independent retailers.
- Experience in budget management and ability to track ROI for marketing activities.
- Expertise in merchandising, POS optimization, and understanding of shopper behaviours.
Tertiary Qualification:
- A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or additional certifications in trade marketing or sales is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with internal teams, retail partners, and external suppliers.
- Analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret sales data and shopper insights to make informed decisions.
- Proficient in trade marketing tools, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
