We are looking for a dedicated Sustainability Officer for our Veranda Resorts, to join our Sustainability & Inclusive Development department.

 

Overview of the role:

The Sustainability Officer's primary purpose is to implement and oversee hotels sustainability strategy, promoting sustainable practices, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards to enhance hotels social and environmental impact.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation and coordination of the Sustainable Development strategy by following up on Sustainable Development projects (such as Green Key) and supporting the hotels in organizing regular CSR activities.
  • Organize regular CSR activities and follow up on the implementation of Sustainable Development actions and initiatives.
  • Conduct sustainability training and awareness sessions for all teams.
  • Communicate with guests on the sustainability initiatives of the hotel by acting as a sustainability ambassador.
  • Identify opportunities both internal and external and create news that can be exploited for PR value to maximize coverage.
  • Report sustainability KPIs of the business units falling under his/her responsibility.
  • Assist in the collection of data required for various reporting frameworks.
  • Create engagement among staff and guests on sustainable development.
  • Act as the contact person for sustainability and social inclusiveness of business units falling under his/her responsibility
  • Maintain constant contact and communication with NGOs and the local community.
  • Collaborate with the communication team to develop sustainability news and events for internal and external communication.
  • Follow up on sustainability actions put in place at the hotel.
  • Develop environmental actions towards the protection and preservation of natural ecosystems.
  • Support the implementation of sustainability guidelines and projects in business units.
  • Conduct monthly sustainability meetings and act as the chairperson.
  • Ensure proper landscaping actions in line with ecological considerations: fertilization, hotel garden, endemic plants, etc.
  • Identify points of sustainable actions, such as highlighting bad habits, reducing the use of single-use plastics, and engaging in conversations with guests.
  • Assist in the preparation of sustainability audit exercises.
  • Be the contact person for all social activities, such as beach clean-ups and awareness sessions for local people.
  • Initiate new and innovative sustainability actions in your business unit.
  • Participate in morning meetings to share progress and updates on sustainability issues.

 

Candidates Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in sustainability management, environmental conservation, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and educate diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks, eco-certification processes, and best practices in sustainable tourism and hospitality is an advantage.
