Our client in the manufacturing sector is seeking to recruit a Shipping Manager who will report to the General Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible to manage and lead all Shipping / Freight activities and will play a crucial role for all shipping and goods in transit.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team to work in close collaboration with freight forwarders to manage, prepare and ensure the shipment of orders to and from Mauritius.
  • Ensure proper routing of goods in transit under the best conditions in terms of costs, time and safety.
  • Align with client’s requirement to determine the appropriate transport arrangements (sea, air, express) depending on the demands and urgency.
  • Organise and coordinate the receptions of shipments with suppliers, freight forwarders and other transit service.
  • Request documents from suppliers for permits/ application of permits to government bodies and ensure all permits are obtained prior to arrival of containers and customs clearance.
  • Negotiate the best shipping and freight rates and ensure transparency and also requires the approval of management.
  • Evaluate the service providers, reporting and monitoring of key performance indicators.
  • Ensure compliances with all international, laws, regulations, guidelines and legislations in Europe, US, Asian and African Countries.
  • Collaborating with internal departments to optimize the flow of orders from preparation of shipment.
  • Evaluating Carriers/Forwarders performance and resolving issues with orders and logistics.
  • Complying to shipping industry regulations and company policies.
  • Negotiation of contract of transportation and agreements with carriers and freight forwarders.
  • Monitor product Import or Export processes to ensure compliance with regulatory or legal requirements.
  • Treatment of disputes with relevant local authorities, customs department, MRA and insurance companies related to missing documentation / permit, delay, damage or loss of merchandise.
  • To prepare, verify and submit customs declaration and ensure that the goods are cleared with less hassle possible and timely manner.
  • Verification and identification of items upon reception of products from freight forwarding agent for permits.
  • Ensure proper team planning and management of the shipping department.
  • Follow-up on team performance and monitor regularly to ensure all job objectives/ KPI’s are met.
  • Ensure all staffs are given necessary training, coaching and guidance in order to perform their tasks properly.
  • Perform any other tasks as and when required by management in line with your function and not mentioned above but that could be required for the good running of the business operations.
  • Comply with the CTPAT Requirement.
Profile:

  • Degree in Management, Supply Chain, Logistics and or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in shipping field with at least 4 years at management level.
  • Knowledge of shipping industry regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air or sea including the relative costs and benefits.
  • In-depth knowledge of logistics and shipping documentation.
  • Knowledge of Export/Cross Trade procedures.
  • Advanced leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
