We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Rodrigues Manager to join our team on a Full-time Basis. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will play a crucial role in managing all personnel, projects, ecotourism and activities in Rodrigues, ensuring the development and implementation of our conservation efforts. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a passion for environmental conservation.

Main responsibilities

  • Conservation Management: Ensure conservation activities in Rodrigues are carried out according to project plans and agreed goals, including ecosystem management, invasive weed control, nursery management, and the propagation of threatened plant species.
  • Education Programme: Develop and manage educational activities to raise awareness and support for conservation efforts.
  • Project Development: Initiate and develop new projects in line with the strategic plan.  Write proposals for current and future projects.
  • Team Management: Supervise the Rodrigues MWF team, including volunteers and visiting researchers, ensuring proper planning, task assignment, adherence to procedures, and staff welfare.
  • Reporting: Provide all reports required by management and funders which cover regular updates on project actions and status, monitoring, staff performance, meetings attended, spending and any other relevant issues.
  • Recruitment and Training: Manage staff recruitment and induction. Ensure all staff receive necessary training to maintain high standards and carry out their assigned duties.
  • Asset and Data Management: Safeguard MWF assets, maintain proper accounting and data recording, ensure data security, and respect intellectual property rights.
  • Liaison and Representation: Coordinate with other organizations, governmental departments, media, and agencies in Rodrigues. Represent MWF at relevant committees and events.
  • Outreach: Ensure the organisation and execution of guided tours, lectures, and talks for visiting groups, students, potential funders, and VIPs. Attend workshops and deliver talks.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
  • 5 years of appropriate managerial experience.
  • Field work experience is required.
  • Essential to reside in Rodrigues.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams, with experience in supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in financial management and budgeting.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software. Experience with GIS.
  • Excellent communication skills with good spoken and written English and French.
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills, self-motivated with demonstrated organizational abilities.
  • A clean and valid driving license is required.
  • Have a keen interest in conservation and the environment.

Location

Based at Solitude Office, Rodrigues.
