The R&D Process Technician provides the required technical support to enable the manufacturing plant to function effectively, whilst adhering to correct procedures to support the R&D and QC laboratory in the analysis and investigation at Saint-Gobain Ocean Indien manufacturing site.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist R&D with project development pertaining to both new and existing product development, including raw material evaluations.
  • Ensure and maintain cost effective product formulations.
  • Improve product performance based on market feedback, ensuring that customers expressed needs are met.
  • Serve as the interface for R&D, QC and Manufacturing staff to drive operational and innovation goals.
  • Communicate effectively to audiences of varying backgrounds.
  • Responsible for setting up and running pilot scale experimental testing using appropriate safety guidelines consistent with safety practices
  • Follow good laboratory practices and procedures
  • Prepare technical reports based on tests findings
  • Develop new ideas and techniques for process improvements
  • Conduct routine tasks accurately, following strict methodologies.
  • Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced with consumables, raw materials and chemicals.
  • Work with Production Manager on projects with guidance and record and interpret results.
  • Assists the Production Manager in the implementation of ISO 17025 and thereafter maintaining procedures and work instructions for the laboratory.
  • Develop and initiate QC standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Test product and record data concerning materials and product according to the ISO17025 quality system.
  • Assist the QC laboratory when required, for testing of samples and conducting trial batches.
  • Comply with EHS regulations of the organization and ensure good housekeeping practices.
  • Accountable for risk management in the Laboratory & operations division
  • Must be willing to and have the aptitude to study further and undergo various training programs as determined by the Company.

 REQUIREMENTS

 Ideally, you will possess the following:

o  Experience in R&D relating to cement and/or concrete technology will be advantageous

o  Experience in R&D relating to Paint and coatings will be advantageous

o  Ability to take ideas from concept to implementation with a strong emphasis on applications

o  Experience in construction chemicals product development process

o  Good communication, strong analytical and technical skills, good organizational skills

o  Have a keen interest for problem solving and troubleshooting

o  Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrate experience on rootcause analysis

o  The ability to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technicalproblems.

o  Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to use technical equipment with accuracy

o  The ability to maintain technical equipment.

o  Effective time management skills.

o  Excellent oral communication skills to work effectively with colleagues from all parts of theorganisation and to explain complex techniques to interested parties.

o  Proficiency in Microsoft office tools – Excel & PowerPoint

 QUALIFICATIONS required to fulfil the role

BSc Degree, preferably Chemistry or material science
