The Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing the bank’s portfolio of IT initiatives, ensuring they align with strategic business goals and deliver maximum value. This role focuses on managing demand, prioritizing projects, optimizing resources, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to drive business value delivery while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
Portfolio Planning & Alignment

  • Develop and manage the IT portfolio strategy to align with the bank’s strategic objectives and business value delivery goals.
  • Ensure portfolio initiatives address critical business needs, regulatory requirements, and technological priorities.
  • Collaborate with business units to identify, evaluate, and prioritize IT demands based on strategic importance and ROI.

Demand Management

  • Establish processes to capture, assess, and manage IT demands from business units.
  • Conduct regular reviews of incoming demands to assess feasibility, alignment, and resource availability.
  • Work with stakeholders to refine project scopes, timelines, and budgets before inclusion in the portfolio.

Prioritization & Resource Optimization

  • Implement and maintain a robust prioritization framework to balance business needs, resource constraints, and risk considerations.
  • Allocate resources effectively across portfolio initiatives to maximize value and minimize conflicts.
  • Regularly review and adjust priorities based on changing business dynamics and strategic goals.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Build strong relationships with business leaders, IT teams, and external vendors to ensure portfolio alignment with stakeholder expectations.
  • Facilitate regular portfolio governance meetings to review progress, resolve conflicts, and refine priorities.
  • Act as a mediator between business and IT teams to address and resolve escalations.

Performance Monitoring & Value Delivery

  • Define and track portfolio performance metrics, including financial performance, value delivery, and risk management.
  • Develop dashboards and reports to provide stakeholders with visibility into portfolio progress and outcomes.
  • Monitor the delivery of business value from IT initiatives and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify and manage risks at the portfolio level, ensuring proactive mitigation plans are in place.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and governance standards across all initiatives.
  • Monitor interdependencies and potential impacts across projects within the portfolio.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze portfolio performance to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Propose enhancements to portfolio management processes, tools, and frameworks to increase efficiency and alignment with business goals.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning within portfolio management.

 
KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field 
  • 5-7 years of experience in similar roles, preferably within the banking or financial services sector 
  • Expertise in managing complex IT projects and cross-functional teams. 
  • Expertise in demand management and prioritization frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of portfolio management tools [e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira, Clarity PPM].
  • Familiarity with IT governance frameworks and methodologies [e.g., ITIL, COBIT].
  • Understanding of banking systems, regulatory compliance, and financial planning principles.
  • Experience with COBIT, ITIL, Agile, and project management methodologies such as PMP or PRINCE2 would be an advantage 
  • Strong understanding of architecture & banking frameworks [e.g., TOGAF, BIAN etc ].
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, data governance, and regulatory compliance standards. 
  • Experience in managing IT risks, compliance, and ensuring alignment with banking regulations 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to influence stakeholders and foster collaboration.
  • Leadership skills to manage and inspire a high-performing team.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • Certifications in portfolio, program, or project management [e.g., PfMP, PgMP, PMP] would be an advantage.
