A Laboratory Team Leader is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring safety protocols, guiding and mentoring team members, managing resources, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of experimental results.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises, plans and manages the laboratory activities in accordance with compliance to ISO 17025 and Group Policies & Guidelines, Customer’s requirements.
  • Train and supervise team member for accuracy and reliability in order to provide quality work from the analysis/calibration process. (Objective-0% errors)
  • Ensure that set turnaround time for every item submitted for analysis is adhered to and that the requirements are fully met including application of correct methods/standards in accordance with international, company and Customer’s standards and guidelines
  • Ensures equipment is maintained and calibrated, reporting all deficiencies (equipment malfunctions) in an appropriate manner. Keep and update regular maintenance log for all equipment under their control.
  • To ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with ISO 17025 Standards or any other implemented international standards or guidelines
  • To ensure that health and safety measures are adhered with regards to general hygiene for test items as per quality system procedures and the management system procedures
  • To ensure compliance with the SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct 

PROFILE

  • A degree/ Master in Chemistry,  with 2 years working experience in Petroleum testing laboratory
  • Position requires incumbent to work weekends and to be on call 24/7 when needed, to meet business commitments
  • Must be fit to perform job duties in weather conditions which include rain, heat, and cold
  • Must be fit to work in confined spaces
  • Must be fit to carry Test items, gear or equipment up to 10kg
  • Must be able to differentiate between colours accurately by sight
  • Must be able to work under flexi time basis 
  • Must adhere to PPE requirements
  • Must successfully pass drug/alcohol testing (including annual).
  • Must maintain active valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to tolerate job pressure and extended working hours in line with applicable local law
  • Must be able to travel (Plane / Ship) for job attendance if required
  • Holder of clean and active certificate of character
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Must be able to work with high level of integrity and respect while abiding to the SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct at all times
  • Must be able to work under subordinate and understand hierarchy work systems
  • Ability to build and lead an effective team and foster a sense of collaboration to achieve goals
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, while directing numerous projects concurrently with different deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Position requires a dependable and reliable individual; whose daily presence adds to the success of the Department.
  • Highly motivated, accountable and responsible to project and time management
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
