Anzana Electric Group is hiring a Junior Accountant to support the Finance team with the group’s day to day bookkeeping and administrative work on a full-time basis.

 

Location: Point aux canonniers(half office; half remotely)

About Anzana Electric Group (formerly Virunga Power) 

Anzana Electric Group is a renewable energy company focused on creating a new model for the generation and distribution of power in rural sub-Saharan Africa. We invest in, develop, own, and operate renewable energy generation of up to 20 MW and regional electricity distribution projects across East and Southern Africa. We are developing and implementing private utility solutions for countries and communities across sub-Saharan Africa to increase energy access and electrification rates through sustainable financing structures. Headquartered in Mauritius, Anzana Electric Group operates and develops projects in Burundi, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Working closely with and reporting to Anzana’s Group Accountant and Group Finance Manager, the Junior Accountant will be entrusted with the following duties and responsibilities: 

  • Perform general bookeeping in line with IFRS  
  • Perform intercompany bookeeping and reconciliation 
  • Provide active support during financial audits 
  • Prepare financial statements 
  • Review employees’ expenses for accuracy 
  • Post employees’ expenses and reconcile accounts balances  
  • Perform bank reconciliations  
  • Perform accounts payable reconciliation  
  • Perform monthly journals including prepayments and accruals  
  • Prepare and maintain quarterly fixed asset register 
  • Ensure journals and account reconciliations are completed accurately and timely 
  • Assist the Finance team with ad hoc administrative duties  
  • Monitor and follow up employee timesheets  
  • Prepare payslips 

 

Minimum Requirements: 

The ideal candidate would have the following skills and credentials: 

Education and Experience: 

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar role. 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or similar. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). 
  • Must have experience with Odoo ERP. 
  • Keen to learn about ERP configuration and setting up processes to faciliate business. 
  • Experience working in a group operating several companies accross Africa – especially Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi or Malawi – is a plus. 

Competencies: 

  • Strong data analytical skills including excel.  
  • Knowledge on purchases ledger process. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Effective organizational skills. 
  • Commitment to professionalism and high standards of integrity and ethics. 
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal instruction. 
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills and 

Other: 

  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy, international development, and social impact. 
  • Experience working with a Big 4, a Company Secretary or a GBL company in Mauritius would be a plus. 
  • Fluency in English and French is required.
  • Residing in the North (Grand Baie area). 
  • Willingness to take initiative on proactive problem solving. 
  • Possess high standards of professionalism and integrity.
