The Food Safety and Hygiene Officer is responsible to maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and quality, and reports directly to the Quality Manager.

 

Engaged in the continuous supply of locally refined and packed edible oils as well as a range of quality food products, Mauritius Oil Refineries Ltd. (Moroil) puts much emphasis in providing a safe and pleasant working environment for employees whilst ensuring development, advancement, team spirit and creativity. The Company is looking for a self-motivated Food Safety and Hygiene Officer to join its Governance, Risk and Compliance Department.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement Hygiene Policies and Procedures;
  • Conduct Hygiene and Fabrication Inspections, assess cleaning against the housekeeping performance and implement corrective actions;
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, standards and customers’ requirements;
  • Conduct training programmes on food safety and good hygiene practices;
  • Investigate food safety incidents, complaints and non-conformities, and develop corrective and preventive actions;
  • Conduct Quality Control Activities in different departments;
  • Monitor Pest Control Activities;
  • Review Technical and Material Safety Specifications regarding cleaning materials, detergents, and food contact equipment;
  • Conduct hygiene inspection during oil loading and unloading operations and similarly for food product containers;
  • Prepare and submit reports related to food safety and hygiene tasks;
  • Monitor Food Handlers Certificate for all employees;
  • Assist the Quality Manager and Safety and Health Officer as and when required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Excellent supervisory, organisational, and planning skills and ability to handle requests and queries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams)
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills both in French and English
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other stakeholders.

QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum a diploma in Food Science and Hygiene or a related field.
  • Certificates/Licenses in respect of Food Safety and Hygiene.
  • At least 2 years proven work experience in a similar role.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Food Safety awareness studies.
  • Be fully conversant with all health and safety and hygiene procedures and legislation
