The Construction Estimator is responsible for evaluating construction project costs and providing accurate estimates for bidding purposes.

 

This role involves analyzing project plans and specifications, preparing detailed cost estimates, and collaborating with project managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure that projects are completed within budget and on schedule

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation :
    • Review and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications.
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
    • Utilize estimating software and tools to produce accurate estimates.
  2. Bid Preparation:
    • Compile and analyze bid data to formulate competitive and accurate bid proposals.
    • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing and availability.
    • Prepare and submit bid documents, including qualifications and scopes of work.
  3. Project Analysis:
    • Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions and gather information for estimates.
    • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and suggest alternatives.
    • Evaluate project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  4. Communication and Coordination :
    • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to clarify project requirements and resolve issues.
    • Communicate with clients to understand project goals and constraints.
    • Maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and related documentation.
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on cost estimates and bid outcomes.
    • Track and report on project costs throughout the construction phase.
  6. Market Research:
    • Stay informed about industry trends, material costs, and labor rates.
    • Monitor and analyze competitor activities and market conditions.

Qualifications :

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or in a similar role; typically, 3-5 years.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
    • Accuracy and organisational skills
    • Ability to work as part of a Team
    • Proficiency in estimating software.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
    • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.

Working Conditions :

  • Office-based with occasional site visits.
  • May require extended hours during peak bidding periods.
