Casela Nature Parks is looking for a Conservation and Research Lead to implement conservation and education strategies and programmes in the park.
The Conservation and Research Lead role focuses on implementing conservation and education strategies and programmes at Casela Nature Parks.
Being in this role, you will be involved but not limited to:
- Study and analyse characteristics of animals such as origin, interrelationships, classification, life histories, development, genetics, and distribution.
- Develop educational program as per Casela’s mission and vison.
- Educate all visitors, including local schools and colleges, and raise awareness of environmental issues and conservation officers' work;
- Promote and implement local and national biodiversity action plans in partnership with local/national/international statutory and voluntary organisations:
- Take full responsibility of Casela’s endemic garden and achieve a sustainable management of the garden.
- Organise, supervise and train supporting staff and volunteers on conservation and or Education issues
- Maintain effective records using IT database systems;
- Prepare applications to get funding and grants
- Provide information about zoo facility, its collection of both fauna and flora, and wildlife conservation to Senior Manager – Park Operations
- Deal with enquiries from the public;
- Create and adapt materials for various age groups from preschool children to career-minded adults.
- Make recommendations on management systems and planning for wildlife populations and habitat, consulting with stakeholders and the public at large to explore options.
- Manage and/or assist in studbooks
- Disseminate information by writing reports and scientific papers or journal articles, and by making presentations and giving talks for schools, clubs, interest groups, to create material land park interpretive programs.
- Implement and carry out guided visits around the fauna, flora and create material of the park collections.
- Follow up of projects and project implementation
- Perform any other cognate duties as may be assigned related to the nature of your work
Candidate’s Profile:
- Holds at least a diploma in animal science, biology or zoology, or a related field, such as management, health or behaviour.
- Animal Care – at least 3-year experience concerning care of animals
- A good understanding of how a park functions
- Ability to communicate at all levels both orally and in writing
- Sound Knowledge of animal behaviour, husbandry, and welfare.
- Ability to communicate clearly in a written and oral fashion
- Ability to speak and interact with the public
- Excellent presentation skills
- Able to work with limited supervision
- Be prepared to work odd hours and during weekends
