The Assistant Manager (AM) / Manager in Risk Consulting Services plays a crucial role in Baker Tilly’s growth strategy. This position is key to executing the department's and firm's strategy by providing strong leadership, guidance to the team, and assisting in managing client engagements, departmental functions, and management expectations. As a leading representative of Baker Tilly to both staff and clients, the Assistant Manager / Manager must uphold exemplary standards, ethics, and behavior.
The Manager in the Risk Consulting services is a professional who is responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end engagement process, people and talent, learning and education, client relationship, and administration of the audit practice from a broader organizational perspective. It is expected that the Asst. Manager / Manager in Risk Consulting possess in-depth knowledge and technical expertise on Risk Management methodologies and compliance with laws and regulations such as the FIAMLA 2002, Data protection Act 2007 and COSO framework. Moreso, the AM should be well versed and experienced in leading Internal Audit engagements, AML/CFT audits and broader risk consulting projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage engagements such as AML/CFT independent audits, Internal Audit, Data protection engagements and other ad-hoc risk consulting engagements in consultation with the Senior Manager/Associate Director/Partner.
- The AM must independently acquire knowledge and become an expert in all technical aspects of the requirements of the relevant AML/CFT and Data Protection laws and regulations as well as international Standards such as the Global Internal Audit Standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
- Manage engagement project dynamics efficiently to achieve corporate targets on engagement and recovery.
- Holistic annual planning and allocation of workforce in different engagements and in collaboration with other Senior Managers/Associate Directors.
- Allocate responsibilities to associates and junior team members for every assigned engagement within the assigned portfolio of the AM.
- Monitor engagement progress, delivery and quality against the plan and course correct where required.
- Take responsibility to deliver the highest level of quality aligning with relevant laws and regulations such as FIMALA 2002, FIAML Regulations 2018, Data protection Act 2007, GDPR laws while meeting client deadlines.
- Ability to work under pressure and work after normal working hours to achieve deadlines.
- Review work of team members on a timely basis to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of deliverables.
- Provide continuous on-the-job training and constructive feedback to team members for every engagement.
- Provide timely and formal performance reviews to staff after the completion of each engagement.
- Develop people by encouraging individuals to think for themselves and take responsibility for their contributions to the team.
- Complete reviews on time and submit draft deliverables to the Risk Consulting senior manager.
- Coach and develop people by sharing knowledge and helping team members develop skills that cultivate technical competencies.
- Contribute to develop technical papers and articles for publication.
- Develop and deliver technical training to internal and external audiences.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with other lines of services within Baker Tilly.
- Develop and maintain productive client relationships and networks.
- Cultivate and manage business development by generating new business opportunities and leads through cross-selling opportunities.
- Responsible for management and control of the Risk Consulting Services administration in relation to client portfolio, including management of project budgets, recovery, cost overruns, billing, and debt collections.
Requirements and skills
- At least 7 years of risk consulting experience.
- Prior management experience in audit or accounting practice or experience in managing assigned client portfolio and people.
- ACCA/ACA/CIA fully or partly qualified or equivalent qualification.
