This role will focuses on the cultivation of crops outside the sugar industry, to enhance farm productivity and sustainability.
Main Responsibilities______________________________________________
Planning and implementation of crop rotation and planting schedules for non-sugar crops.
Monitor crop growth, development, and health, providing recommendations for improvements.
Conduct field inspections to assess crop conditions and identify potential issues (e.g., pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies).
Perform plants propagation and regular soil tests to assess pH, fertility, and nutrient levels, making recommendations for amendments as necessary.
Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of irrigation systems to optimize water usage and ensure crops receive proper hydration.
Identify pest and disease outbreaks, and recommend strategies to mitigate damage with minimum environmental impact.
Responsible for greenhouse environment management and maintenance of plant material in assigned greenhouses.
Track organic/biological pest control treatments and approaches.
Maintain detailed records of agricultural practices, crop yields, and environmental conditions.
Prepare reports summarizing findings and providing actionable recommendations
Work on ongoing agricultural research projects related to non-sugar crops.
Implement experimental planting and cultivation trials to assess effectiveness
Promote and implement sustainable farming practices, including organic farming, soil conservation, and water management.
Oversee and provide ongoing support and guidance to field staff regarding crop care, pest management, and maintenance of agricultural equipment.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in crop management, with a focus on non-sugar crops, horticulture, or a similar agricultural field. This includes expertise in field and greenhouse management, soil health monitoring, pest and disease identification, and irrigation systems.
Qualifications
Degree or Certificate in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field. Together ideally with relevant exposure or training in organic farming or sustainable agriculture.

Strong ability to diagnose crop health issues, including nutrient deficiencies, pest infestations, and disease outbreaks.

Experience in conducting agricultural research, particularly in relation to non-sugar crops, sustainability practices, and experimental planting trials.

A deep understanding of sustainable farming practices, with the ability to implement techniques for organic farming, soil conservation, and water management.
