DHL Global Forwarding Mauritius has an opening for a Safety and Health Specialist where you will be responsible for monitoring the company’s compliance with health and safety law and providing advice to employer and employees on the working environment. This will involve both desk-based monitoring as well as company visits.

You will also be responsible for consultation on all sites of the Company both Port Louis and Plaine Magnien Offices, informing and instructing as per OSHA 2005 and associated regulations, advising and counselling, communication with concerned Authorities, trainings, and Inspection (PPEs, Fire Extinguishers….). In this Safety and Health Specialist position

• You should be eligible to register with the Ministry of Labour as per OSHA 2005.
• You will be setting up a proper S&H policy answering to the needs of the company.
• You will assess that all handling, Storage, or transport of article/substances is safe and without risk to health and take preventive measures as regards to OSHA 2005 and DCCA 2004.
• You will provide or Suggest information to ensure the Safety and Health at Work.
• You will aid Company in implementing norms and standard as per the OSHA.
• You will advise, Recommend and Implement any ruling legislation.
• You will implement any amendments in Legislations Concerned.
• You will bring expertise to health and safety committee at least once every 2 months or as per emergency or requirement.
• You will perform any other duties as mentioned in Duties and Responsibilities, Section 20; Duties of Safety & Health Consultant as mentioned in the OSH Act 2005.
• You will ensure all building occupied by the company have a valid Fire Certificate.
• You will perform fire safety training and a fire drill at least once yearly.
• You will assist any inspection done by the officers of Ministry of Labour, Fire Service of Ministry of Environment.
• You will evaluate the weaknesses of personnel and recommend training accordingly.
• You will be responsible for the planning of training requirements.
• You will train as per your expertise for further development of personnel.
• You will sensitize Personnel via Communiqués, Memos, talks and seminars.
• You will suggest suppliers for any other advanced training required.
• You will ensure there is a minimum of First Aider with a valid certificate in all sites of work.
• You will act as secretary of the Health and Safety Committee at least once every 2 months.
• You will sit in the health and safety committee as a neutral party and advice the company about grievances from all members.
• You will draft and approve minutes of meeting.
• You will communicate all minutes of meeting to authoritative bodies, employee and employer concerned.
• You will request for committee in special case (Emergencies, matters requiring immediate/urgent results).
• You will carry out verification of fire extinguishers and report for service at least one month prior expiration
• You will be ensuring that all PPEs are according to norms and Certificate of compliance from MSB available.
• You will ensure that all Machineries shall be assessed, and hazards reported, and measures shall be suggested to avoid any accidents (if any).
• You will ensure all notifiable machineries are inspected by a registered machinery inspector and report forwarded to Ministry of Labour as per OSHA 2005 (if any).
• You will ensure that all Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Hazards are under control.
• You will ensure that any communication to the concern authorities and Ministries shall be done on timely manner.
• You will ensure that all Issue recorded shall be promptly communicated to the HR Business Partner and to Management Team.
• You will be responsible for the submission of the following reports.
• Risk Assessment for each individual site – Yearly
• Individual Sites Report – Monthly
• Planning of Training – Two Monthly
• Evaluation of Training – Yearly
• Minutes of H&S committee – Two Monthly

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
