Job Purpose

To provide internal legal and regulatory support to the Company and its directors and to provide external legal, regulatory and tax support to the company’s clients.

Main duties:
  • Responsible for the drafting of client agreements
  • Provide legal review of client agreements and update all stakeholders
  • Provide required assistance to sales / business development
  • Responsible to provide accurate advice on client structuring
  • Advise directors on legal matters and working with third party legal counsel to resolve matters of concern
  • Be the focal point in providing advice to clients/company on tax, regulatory and legal matters
  • Preparing and reviewing marketing materials / articles (for legal accuracy)
  • Field enquiries from Client Relationship Managers regarding POA’s, agreements, contracts, trust issues and general client queries;
  • Field enquiries from compliance department
  • Updating of manuals, policies & procedures
  • Assisting managers in dealing with complaints
  • Playing a role in the departmental and third-party education and training program
  • Keeping colleagues up to date with new laws and developments in the law
  • Reviewing local legislation changes and updating staff
  • Reviewing incoming articles and literature, summarizing and circulating to group offices
  • Assisting local board with regulatory, HR, health & safety, compliance and employment issues
  • Deal with applications to court in Mauritius, instructing outside Counsel as required; and
  • Any other ad hoc duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Law or related fields such as Company Law, Tax, Contract Law, Trusts and Estate Planning
Skills:
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • Ability to provide legal advice to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Familiarity with legal research databases and software
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a legal role. Experience in the finance sector preferred
  • Experience in providing legal advice on a wide range of financial products and services
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating legal agreements and contracts
  • Experience in conducting legal research and analysis
  • Experience in managing legal risks and compliance issues
  • Experience in collaborating with other departments, such as marketing, compliance, and finance, to ensure a coordinated approach to legal issues
