Marketing Manager/Digital Manager
Responsibilities
Website operations management:
- Manage the daily operations of an original news, news aggregation and data analytics website that educates users about the emerging consumer and fintech industry. Daily operations include overseeing the aggregation of news and data from multiple sources, ensuring the accuracy of curated content and data, managing original content creation with news writers and contributors, scheduling article publications and coordinating their promotion on social media.
- Manage and execute news website’s inclusion in Google News, Apple News and other news aggregators.
- Work with CEO/Marketing Director to develop an editorial calendar with story ideas, interviews, rankings, etc.
- Track audience engagement using Google Analytics, web traffic analysis and user engagement metrics.
- A key component of the Marketing Manager’s job is implementing editorial guidelines developed by CEO/Marketing Director, which includes style guide (i.e., article length, headlines, CTA placements, meta/dek, subsections, use of multi-media, etc.), SEO strategy, implementing newsletter strategy and implementing ChatGPT detectors to avoid AI generated content.
- Develop relationships with PR firms to generate leads on original stories and encourage the experts they represent to write articles on our original news publication. Develop relations with PR firms and advertisers to sell paid advertising, such as banner ads, press releases and long-form advertorial content. Manage and implement all banner ad campaigns from other companies.
- Develop a list of relevant social media influencers that can add credibility to our original news publication and reach out to them individually to contribute to the platform.
- Suggest and develop operational plans for a monetization strategy, such as ads, subscriptions or premium content.
Product writing:
- Write detailed, compelling and informative product descriptions for all products, including consumer and fintech products. The product descriptions must be clear, engaging and accurately convey the product’s benefits and features. The product descriptions will appear on websites, corporate materials such as brochures and fact sheets, marketing documents and VC pitch decks.
- The product descriptions must translate complex ideas into clear, user-friendly content, ensuring that all technical information is easy to understand for the target audience.
- Product descriptions must be adjusted for style and tone based on the target audience, as outlined above.
- CEO/Marketing Director and Project Manager to approve all product descriptions, which may require multiple edits and formatting changes that the Marketing Manager is responsible for handling.
Social media management:
- Develop the company’s public-facing social media identity and manage social media teams across various platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and presence.
- Use social media to amplify our publication’s original stories and encourage participation on our website as a reader, writer and/or user.
- Develop social media content that appeals to journalists to get them to use our news publication as a source of content. For example, use data, charts and graphs from our platform to showcase industry growth trends. The Marketing Manager must be able to use the data and charts presented on our website to create compelling social media copy that raises awareness of the industry.
- Amplify the presence of our corporate leaders (i.e., CEO) and contributors on social media.
Key Skills
- Experience maintaining operations for a digital publication, including managing a team of writers (internal and third-party contributors), optimizing the editorial workflow to streamline the process from content creation to publication, manage advertorial and PR relations, support the ideation of content and connect editorial and social media workflows.
- Knowledge of WordPress or custom content management systems (CMS) and SEO tools (i.e., SEMrush and Ahrefs), and can apply this knowledge to an original news website.
- Proficiency in using website analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console, to track website traffic, user behavior and other engagement metrics. Must be able to apply this knowledge to suggest ways to maximize page viewership and length of time users spend on each page.
- Knowledge of Google News and aggregators to ensure that content is optimized for inclusion in Google News and Apple News, search rankings and discovery.
- Proficiency in writing product descriptions and public-facing content for consumer and fintech products in technology, banking, payments or related industries. Experience in writing product descriptions in the blockchain industry is considered an asset. The Marketing Manager must have the ability to tweak product descriptions based on audience and medium (i.e., fact sheet, VC pitch deck, website content, landing page, brochure, etc.).
- At least five years of experience with website copywriting, article writing and social media management. A focus on technology, personal finance or fintech are ideal. Blockchain is considered an asset. The Marketing Manager must be a strong writer who can demonstrate these skills.
- An experienced social media strategist who can leverage platforms like Twitter (X), Facebook, LinkedIn, and Reddit to drive traffic, and can expand those skills into decentralized social media platforms. The Marketing Manager must be able to apply such strategies across all social media presences. The Marketing Manager must also be able to develop our original news publication’s public-facing identity across all social media platforms. This includes establishing and tweaking our communications on X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, etc.
- An experienced email and newsletter marketer who can grow subscriptions using platforms like Mailchimp, Substack or custom CRM tools. Once again, they must be able to apply this experience to our original news publication’s email marketing and newsletter strategies.
- Knowledge of subscription and monetization models for news and data content websites, such as Google AdSense. The Marketing Manager must understand how news and data platforms are monetized. This is usually a combination of Google AdSense, paid banner ads and CTAs, press releases and long form advertorial content, and affiliate marketing.
Qualifications and Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, economics, communications, business, journalism, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in online publishing, digital marketing, content marketing, public relations, or similar fields. Work experience in the fintech, software, and/or finance industries is considered an asset. Experience in the blockchain industry is also considered an asset.
- Portfolio of product copywriting or content that delivered measurable business results.
