Job Description

As a Project Engineer, the job holder will be responsible for managing solar photovoltaic projects throughout their lifecycle, from tendering and proposal preparation to system design, procurement support, installation supervision, project management, testing, commissioning, and project handover.

The role demands strong technical expertise across solar PV installations, electrical distribution systems, and battery storage technologies, combined with excellent project management capabilities. The Project Engineer will ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and client satisfaction.

  

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Tendering & Proposal Development:

·        Review tender documents, technical specifications, and client requirements. Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies.

·        Prepare technical and commercial proposals, including system sizing, energy yield analysis, BOQs, and cost estimates.

·        Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors for quotations and technical inputs.

·        Participate in bid clarifications and contract discussions.

·        Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and regulations. 

·       PV System Design & Engineering:

·        Design grid-tied, hybrid, and off-grid PV systems and other engineering solutions as required.

·        Prepare SLDs, layouts, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and engineering documentation.

·        Perform system simulations, performance analysis, and engineering calculations.

·        Ensure compliance with applicable standards, utility requirements, and regulations.

·        Optimize designs for performance, safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. 

·       Project Planning & Execution:

·        Develop project schedules, resource plans, budgets, and execution strategies.

·        Coordinate procurement and ensure timely availability of materials and equipment.

·        Supervise project implementation and monitor progress against project objectives.

·        Identify project risks and implement corrective actions where necessary.

·        Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification. 

·       Installation Supervision & Quality Assurance:

·        Oversee installation activities and ensure compliance with approved designs and standards.

·        Monitor workmanship quality and adherence to HSE requirements.

·        Conduct inspections, testing, and quality checks throughout project execution.

·        Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and clients to resolve technical issues.

·        Maintain accurate installation records and project documentation. 

·       Testing & Commissioning:

·        Develop and execute testing and commissioning plans.

·        Conduct inspections, system verification, performance validation, and functional testing.

·        Coordinate utility interconnection and regulatory compliance requirements where applicable.

·        Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions.

·        Prepare commissioning reports and support project handover activities. 

·       Technical Documentation & Reporting:

·        Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, method statements, and project documentation.

·        Maintain records of project progress, design changes, approvals, and technical data.

·        Develop as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and handover documentation.

·        Provide regular project updates and ensure effective document control. 

·       Collaboration and Teamwork:

·        Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, operations, sales, and management teams.

·        Provide technical support for business development and client engagements.

·        Liaise with clients, utilities, consultants, regulatory authorities, suppliers, and contractors.

·        Participate in training and remain updated on emerging technologies, standards, and industry best practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND OTHER PREREQUISITES 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 4–8 years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering with a focus on PV projects, LV/MV systems, and/or battery storage.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, renewable energy technologies, automation systems, or industrial processes is an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent project planning, organizational, and time-management abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong proficiency in PV design software such as PVsyst
  • Proficiency in CAD or electrical design tools (e.g. AutoCAD)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software tools.
  • Being a registered Professional Engineer with the CRPE would be an added advantage.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
