Job Description
Job Title: Waste Management Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
Waste Strategy & Circular Economy
· Develop and implement a company-wide waste management strategy aligned with the company circular resource lifecycle objectives.
· Identify and champion opportunities to minimise wastage, upcycle by-products, and recover value from waste streams (animal waste, organic matter, packaging, etc.) efficiently.
· Propose and pilot in-house processing solutions to reduce dependency on external waste contractors as far as possible.
Waste Stream Management
· Oversee the handling, segregation, treatment, and disposal of all waste categories including biological/animal waste, green/organic waste, hazardous and pharmaceutical waste, general operational waste and recyclable materials.
· Ensure compliant and ecologically sound disposal methods for all residual waste that cannot be recovered or reused.
· Manage wastewater treatment operations, monitoring effluent quality and identifying reuse opportunities where feasible.
· Manage water quality throughout the sites of the company and at various stages of the activities including but not limited to, at source, during activities and after.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
· Work closely with Animal Care, Veterinary, Food Store, Maintenance, Site Infrastructure and Administration teams or any other teams to understand departmental waste generation and constraints and coordinate with the various HODs on all waste management initiatives.
· Act as a trusted advisor to HODs on waste reduction practices and resource optimisation.
· Champion a culture of environmental responsibility across all teams.
Compliance & Regulatory
· Ensure full compliance with local and international regulations governing biological, hazardous and general waste.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental legislation and biosafety standards.
· Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors and waste contractors as needed.
Data Management & Sustainability Reporting
· Serve as the central point of contact for all waste data collection, recording and reporting.
· Maintain accurate and auditable waste logs across all streams.
· Provide regular waste performance reports and supply data
Report and ESG disclosures.
· Track KPIs including waste diversion rates, recycling rates, wastewater metrics and cost savings from waste reduction initiatives.
Requirements:
· Degree or diploma in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Waste Management, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in waste management, ideally within a agricultural, farming or animal care environment.
· Familiarity with biological and hazardous waste handling regulations.
· Experience with wastewater management is an advantage.
· Strong data management and reporting skills.
· Knowledge of circular economy principles and sustainability frameworks (e.g., GRI, ESG reporting) is desirable.
