Job Description
Job Summary
The Underwriting Officer will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the team and help with the analytical aspect of the portfolio for adequate steering actions. The Underwriting Officer will also provide support in the handling of complex files requiring Reinsurance Support and Technical input and assist in the setting up and handling of projects with stakeholders in respect of new partnership and new products.
Main Responsibilities
- Analyse the portfolio’s profitability, product and other relevant specified categories.
- Assist in the monitoring of Portfolio and make sure that adherence to the Underwriting.
- Risk Appetite is respected.
- Keep up to date with market trends.
- Prepare monthly reports such as for loss ratios, specific dashboards and renewal lists.
- Assist in the handling of underwriting issues.
- Coordinate with all internal stakeholders and ensure timely delivery of information.
- Provide an analytical input on projects from a portfolio management perspective.
- Maintain, update and follow up stakeholder accounts and portfolios.
- Respond and attend to the enquiries of partners.
- Provide available documentation to Claims Department.
- Assist in the interpretation of policy wordings towards claims received and identified.
- Insuring Clauses &/or Exclusions.
- Provide risks mitigation advice for risk improvement.
- Support Client Management Department on technical requests.
- Share knowledge with peers in terms of Underwriting Strategy and Underwriting.
Principles
- Assist in the underwriting of Complex Specialty Files within the given Underwriting Authority.
- Assess risk and underwriting information before approaching Reinsurance Department.
- Advocate with Reinsurance Department/Reinsurers to make risk acceptable.
- Prepare quotations and segregate between Insurance and Reinsurance terms and conditions.
- Review applicable wording and provide technical input to adapt wording into local framework.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, economics, finance or any other related domain.
- CII qualifications would be an advantage.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in insurance sector.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of underwriting and risk assessment.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure and deal with tight deadlines.
