Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Study and analyze characteristics of animals such as origin, interrelationships, classification, life histories, development, genetics, and distribution.
· Oversee the care and distribution of zoo animals and working with curator and keepers to better understand animal management at Casela and share these experiences with clients
· Educate all visitors, including local schools and colleges, and raise awareness of environmental issues and how Casela is involved in Conservation.
· Lead interactive, informative, and engaging tours for visitors of all ages, focusing on animal care, biodiversity conservation, and the critical role zoos play in wildlife protection.
· Assist in the development and delivery of educational activities, presentations, and workshops that emphasize conservation and sustainable practices.
· Act as a point of contact for visitor queries, providing accurate information about the animals, their natural habitats, and current conservation efforts.
· Promote awareness of local and global conservation challenges and advocate for sustainable actions among zoo visitors.
· Encourage visitors to participate in the zoo’s sustainability programs, such as recycling, reducing single-use plastics, and supporting conservation projects.
· Work closely with the animal care, conservation, and marketing teams to ensure the dissemination of up-to-date and accurate information.
· Stay updated on the latest conservation science, biodiversity trends, and sustainable practices by participating in ongoing training and development opportunities.
· Deal with enquiries from the public
· Driver and guide for guests at Casela
· Take care of vehicles allocated for guided tours including washing and cleaning of same
· Report faults and damages to vehicles as per set procedures
· Create tour itineraries with the approval of direct supervisor
· Participate actively in all activities of the Conservation and Research department of Casela
· Follow all trainings and safety rules and regulations set by the Conservation and research lead
· Be able to act as guide through all means available at Casela i.e Quads, Safari Eco Rider, Safari Jeep, Walking tours etc…
· Take high-quality photos of visitors and key moments during tours, ensuring memories are captured while respecting animals and their habitats.
· Properly handle and care for photography equipment supplied by the zoo, ensuring it is maintained in good working condition and stored securely when not in use.
· Inform and direct guests to designated photography stands where they can view and collect their photos, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience.
Any other cognate duties as may be necessary in the circumstances and/or required by the employer.
Candidate's Profile:
- Holds at least a Higher school
certificate with science subjects or travel and tourism
- Animal Care- at least 1 Year experience concerning care of animals
- At least 1 year experience as guide
- A good understanding of how a park works
- Ability to communicates at all levels both orally and in writing
- Sound knowledge of animal behaviour, husbandry and welfare
- Ability to speak and interact with the public
- Excellent presentation skills
- Able to work with limited supervision
- Be prepared to work odd hours and during weekends
