Job Description
The Head of Section - Credit Risk ensures that all relevant areas of credit risk are identified, monitored, measured and reported effectively and regularly and that the appropriate management structures, processes, and policies are in place to manage credit risk in terms of the bank’s risk appetite and policy. The Head of Section - Credit Risk will lead initiatives for development of methodologies for credit origination and the measurement and management of risk in the Credit Portfolio of the bank, will develop and enhance the Credit Reporting & Monitoring framework which meets the requirements of internal and external stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Head of Section - Credit Risk shall ensure that credit is originated in line with the bank’s risk appetite, policy and strategy.
- The Head of Section - Credit Risk shall need to prioritize the use of technology in the process of credit origination and management.
- The Head of Section - Credit Risk ensures that all relevant areas of credit risk are identified, monitored, measured and reported effectively and regularly, and that appropriate management structures, processes, and policies are in place and up to date to manage credit risk, including (but not limited to) the following:
- Develop and implement Bank’s credit risk management strategy for approval by the Board of Directors within the credit risk appetite set by the Board.
- To ensure that Bank’s approach to credit risk management is appropriate, relative to the legislative, economic, competitive environment, Bank’s values, and the credit risk appetite of the Bank.
- Creates strategies and specific objectives for the credit function and develop budgets/policies/procedures to support the function.
- Develop and test contingency plans for all credit areas to ensure services is not affected.
- Develop, maintain and implement Bank’s Lending Policy and credit documentation (e.g., loan agreements, cross border lending, loan syndication, monitoring framework and process, and, where appropriate, recommend changes to MauBank’s credit risk policy / risk appetite).
- Review and update of bank’s credit rating and credit scoring models in line with changes in bank’s risk appetite, market conditions, regulatory guidelines, etc.
- To ensure that Bank’s lending practice is consistent with Bank’s credit risk strategy and risk appetite (including finding the right balance between risk and reward).
- To ensure loan documentation meets business needs and legal obligations.
- Provide requirements and design inputs, particularly with regard to credit risk recognition, measurement and its reporting as part of the core team for implementation of key credit risk related projects (e.g., Credit Management System, IFRS 9).
- Final Review of loan/credit applications and recommend for decision to the relevant credit sanctioning committee within the defined timeframes.
- Ensure credit evaluations are complete and of the highest standard.
- Ensure that the bank complies with all relevant regulations and internal policies and report any deviation as appropriate.
- Submit and debate on credit files at the relevant credit sanctioning committees.
- Provide training to staffs in credit related matters.
PREREQUISITES:
- A Degree or Post Graduate qualification in, commerce, business, law, accounting or a related discipline is preferred
- At least 10 years in a senior banking role.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a senior credit risk management role.
- Legal, finance or accounting background and experience would be an advantage
- Excellent knowledge of Credit risk management including cross-border lending & investment.
SKILLS:
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Attentive to details and target driven, as well as able to multitask and work under pressure.
- A good knowledge of Banking Operations.
- Sound knowledge of Cross Border lending and investment, Consortium and Syndication lending.
- Ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
- Sound problem solving capabilities.
- Solid understanding of the business and market dynamics, key challenges and competitive landscape.
- A detailed understanding of Regulatory guidelines and
internal policies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to convey information effectively and convincingly to different levels.
- Good knowledge of credit rating and credit scoring models.
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Word & Excel tools.
