Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and reliable Administrative Clerk for a law practice.
The successful candidate will provide day-to-day operational support across court errands, client liaison, office administration, and diary management. This is a hands-on role requiring integrity, good organisation, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Attend court to file documents, lodge pleadings, and follow up on case filings on behalf of attorneys.
• Accompany clients to court hearings and other legal appointments as directed.
• Carry out document drop-offs and deliveries to courts, registry offices, counterpart law firms, and clients.
• Download and review cause lists on a daily basis and flag relevant hearing dates to the team.
• Liaise with clients in a professional and courteous manner, relaying messages, updates, and instructions between clients and attorneys.
• Liaise with court registrars and relevant public authorities regarding filed documents and procedural matters.
• Manage and regularly update the Senior Attorney's calendar, scheduling and confirming appointments, hearings, and meetings.
• Send timely reminders to attorneys and clients for upcoming hearings, consultations, and deadlines.
• Monitor and replenish office stationery, kitchen, and grocery supplies as needed.
• Assist with photocopying, scanning, binding, and organising legal documents and case files.
• Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including mail, courier deliveries, and document registration.
• Perform any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Senior Attorney from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
• Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent — required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of working experience in a law firm or legal environment — required.
• Familiarity with Mauritian court procedures, registry processes, and cause list systems is a strong advantage.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and basic office equipment.
