About Afrex Ltd

Afrex Ltd is a Mauritius-based GBC company, with activities in investment holding, trade financing and fleet services management. Its commodity trading activities cover mining chemicals and associated equipment, food products for African food programmes, and fuel and lubricants for African energy programmes.

The Role

We are seeking an Accounts Executive to take responsibility for Afrex’s day-to-day accounting and the preparation of its monthly and annual accounts. The role combines banking and treasury duties with financial reporting, audit coordination, client invoicing and debtor collections. Working daily with the operations team, you will monitor cash flows, maintain accurate records and meet reporting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain Afrex’s general ledger and post transactions, journals and adjustments in Sage Pastel Evolution.
  • Prepare monthly and annual accounts, including trial balances, financial statements and supporting schedules; complete month-end and year-end close.
  • Prepare bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances and clear outstanding items.
  • Process banking and multi-currency transactions, maintain cashbooks and prepare payments for approval.
  • Coordinate daily with the operations team to update cash flow forecasts, monitor receipts and payments, and identify funding requirements.
  • Prepare and issue client invoices, reconcile debtor accounts, monitor ageing and follow up on collections and billing queries.
  • Liaise with external auditors, prepare audit schedules and supporting documents, and resolve audit queries through to completion.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and audit trails, and comply with internal controls.
  • Liaise with banks and finance teams on treasury matters; support cross-training and ad hoc finance tasks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Part-qualified ACCA. A degree in Accounting or Finance would be an advantage.
  • 3 to 4 years of relevant accounting experience, including preparation of monthly and annual accounts and involvement in external audits.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in Sage Pastel Evolution.
  • Strong Excel skills and practical experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations and cash flow monitoring.
  • Knowledge of local tax laws.
  • Experience in client invoicing, debtor collections, online banking and multi-currency transactions.
  • Strong attention to detail, ownership of deadlines, integrity and discretion with financial information.
  • Good written and spoken English and the ability to work closely with operations teams, banks and auditors.
