Job Description
Health & Safety Officer
We are recruiting for our client, a well-established organisation operating in Mauritius, for a Health & Safety Officer to ensure a safe, compliant and healthy working environment across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and programmes in line with applicable legislation and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments, identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements and maintain the necessary records and documentation.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents and near misses, prepare reports and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate health and safety training, awareness sessions and emergency preparedness programmes for employees.
- Monitor the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety equipment and emergency facilities where applicable.
- Work closely with management and employees to promote a strong health and safety culture across the organisation.
- Liaise with relevant authorities, external consultants, contractors and service providers on health and safety matters when required.
- Assist with emergency response procedures, fire safety drills, evacuation plans and other safety-related initiatives.
- Maintain up-to-date health and safety registers, inspection reports, incident records and compliance documentation.
- Monitor contractors and external service providers to ensure that required health and safety standards are respected.
- Provide regular reports and recommendations to management regarding health and safety performance and areas for improvement.
- Carry out any other health and safety-related duties assigned by management.
Candidate Profile
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management or a related field.
- Previous experience in a Health & Safety Officer role, preferably within a corporate, industrial, commercial or multi-site environment.
- Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and workplace safety practices in Mauritius.
- Good understanding of risk assessment, incident investigation, emergency procedures and workplace inspections.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
- Organised, proactive and detail-oriented, with a practical approach to identifying and resolving safety issues.
- Ability to prepare clear reports, maintain accurate documentation and follow up on corrective actions.
- Good command of English and French, both written and spoken.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 17:00
