Grade 1 Automotive Electrician

About the Role

As part of the continued development of our automotive operations, Universal Motors Ltd is looking for an experienced and skilled Grade 1 Automotive Electrician to join its aftersales team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining and repairing automotive electrical and electronic systems, while contributing to the efficient operation of our automotive workshop and maintaining high standards of workmanship and quality control.

We are looking for a dependable automotive professional with at least five years of hands-on experience, strong practical technical knowledge, good diagnostic and problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Automotive Electrical & Electronic Repairs

• Carry out diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on automotive electrical and electronic systems.
• Identify faults, determine appropriate repair solutions and carry out repairs accurately.
• Perform electrical and electronic repairs in accordance with proper technical procedures and manufacturer standards.
• Ensure assigned jobs are completed efficiently and to high standards of workmanship.

Vehicle Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

• Use appropriate diagnostic equipment and testing tools to identify electrical and electronic faults.
• Interpret technical information and carry out systematic troubleshooting procedures.
• Identify the root causes of faults and recommend appropriate corrective action.
• Assist with complex technical and diagnostic cases where required.

Quality Control & Workmanship

• Ensure all maintenance and repair work is carried out to high standards of workmanship.
• Follow manufacturer specifications, technical procedures and workshop quality standards.
• Carry out appropriate checks and testing following repairs.
• Maintain a right-first-time approach and minimise repeat repairs.

Workshop Operations & Safety

• Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment and assigned work areas in good condition.
• Follow workshop safety procedures and proper handling practices.
• Report additional faults, technical concerns and required parts to the workshop supervisor or manager.
• Work effectively with mechanics, other technicians, service advisors and workshop personnel.
• Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the workshop.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum five years of hands-on experience in automotive electrical and electronic diagnostics, maintenance and repair.
• Proven experience as a Grade 1 Automotive Electrician, Senior Automotive Electrician, Automotive Electrical Technician or in an equivalent skilled automotive role.
• Strong practical knowledge of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
• Ability to diagnose electrical and electronic faults and carry out repairs independently.
• Experience using automotive diagnostic equipment and electrical testing tools.
• Ability to read and interpret automotive wiring diagrams and technical information.
• Good understanding of technical procedures, workmanship standards and workshop safety practices.
• Responsible, disciplined and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• High level of integrity, reliability and professionalism.
• Knowledge or experience with electric and hybrid vehicles would be an advantage.
• Relevant automotive electrical, electronic or technical qualifications would be an advantage.
• Willingness to undergo further technical and manufacturer-specific training.
