Job Purpose:
The Painting Solutions
Specialist is responsible for providing expert technical guidance on paint and
coatings application across Polytol's product range. The role involves training
painters, contractors and internal sales teams on correct application technique
and surface preparation, diagnosing on-site application issues such as peeling,
cracking and blistering, and delivering practical, effective solutions. The
role holder supports showrooms, sales representatives and walk-in clients with
technical advice, product demonstrations, colour preparation and dispensing,
while also assisting with departmental supervision, machinery upkeep and Health
& Safety compliance.
1. Product Application & Technical Training
(Internal) - Conduct product application demonstrations and provide training to painters, contractors, and sales staff on proper application techniques and surface preparation, while supporting marketing initiatives with demonstration content and providing daily and weekly activity reports to the Line Manager and Director.
2. Field Support & Issue Resolution
(External) - Conduct product demonstrations and mock-up applications at client sites, support sales representatives in promoting the automotive product range, and diagnose on-site application issues to identify root causes and provide effective corrective solutions.
3. Showroom & Client Support / Colour
Preparation - Serve customers in the showroom, receive and process orders, carry out product dispensing through the Polymatch system, prepare APS using the Kapci and NC Paints (Duco) systems, and prepare Polydeco products using the appropriate bases.
4. Supervision - Monitor and coordinate the colour-matching process to ensure customer requests are completed within deadlines, supervise the Assistant Colourist and departmental activities, assist with stock inventory, and ensure unsold prepared colours are effectively re-sold within one month.
5. Machinery, Equipment & Health and Safety - Maintain clean and safe working conditions by properly handling and storing equipment and tools, using the required Personal Protective Equipment, and ensuring new recruits are trained on Health & Safety practices to prevent workplace injuries.
6. Housekeeping - Carry out housekeeping on a daily basis.
Qualifications &
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, Diploma or certificate in Paint Technology, Chemistry, Industrial/Surface Coatings, or another relevant technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Proven experience in paint/coatings application, ideally including automotive, decorative or industrial products.
- Experience training or coaching painters, contractors or technical teams would be an advantage.
- Experience in a technical support, quality control or production role within the paints/coatings industry is preferred.
Skills required:
- Strong hands-on knowledge of paint/coatings application techniques and surface preparation.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve common application defects (peeling, cracking, blistering).
- Good training and coaching skills for painters, contractors and sales staff.
- Strong client-facing communication skills.
- Ability to plan and manage fieldwork independently, with strong time management.
- Good understanding of colour-matching and dispensing systems (Polymatch, Kapci, NC Paints/Duco, Polydeco).
- Basic supervisory and inventory-management skills.
- Awareness of Health & Safety practices in a workshop/production environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; comfortable using reporting tools.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites across Mauritius.
