Job Description
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior / Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Mauritius.
This is an excellent opportunity for a diploma- or degree-qualified candidate who wishes to develop their career while gaining experience across a varied portfolio of residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.
Working under the guidance of experienced Quantity Surveyors, the successful candidate will assist with projects from initial feasibility and cost planning through tendering, construction and final account. The position will involve both office-based duties and visits to construction sites across Mauritius.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will assist with:
- Measuring and taking off quantities accurately from architectural, structural, civil and services drawings.
- Preparing preliminary estimates, cost plans and project budgets.
- Preparing Bills of Quantities, schedules of works and other tender documentation.
- Obtaining and analysing quotations from contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Assisting with tender evaluations, tender reports and post-tender negotiations.
- Monitoring project expenditure against approved budgets and cost plans.
- Conducting site visits to measure and verify completed works.
- Preparing and assessing interim valuations and payment recommendations.
- Measuring, pricing and maintaining accurate records of variations and changes to the works.
- Preparing regular cost reports, cash-flow information and forecasts of anticipated final cost.
- Assisting with value-engineering exercises, risk reviews and procurement recommendations.
- Supporting contract administration and maintaining accurate commercial and contractual records.
- Attending project, design-team and site meetings when required.
- Assisting with the preparation, negotiation and agreement of final accounts.
- Communicating with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
- Managing assigned tasks across several projects while meeting the required deadlines.
- Carrying out other reasonable Quantity Surveying duties under the supervision of a Senior Quantity Surveyor.
Essential qualifications and experience
Candidates should have:
- A Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognised institution.
- A minimum of two years of relevant Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry or a Quantity Surveying consultancy.
- Sound knowledge of measurement, taking-off and the preparation of Bills of Quantities.
- Experience working from construction drawings and specifications.
- Basic knowledge of estimating, tendering, interim valuations, variations, cost control and final accounts.
- Good numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and other standard office applications.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to organise and prioritise work across several projects.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A professional and confidential approach when handling client and project information.
