Job Description

At General Construction Co. Ltd (GCC), we have built our reputation over decades through engineering excellence, reliability, and delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across Mauritius.

We are looking for a proactive and dynamic Site Agent to join our Civil & Earthworks Department. In this role, you will oversee and manage multiple small to medium-sized civil and earthworks projects simultaneously from inception through to final handover.

You will serve as a key operational link between site execution and departmental management, supervising daily site production, driving progress, and reporting directly to the Head of Civil & Earthworks. You will work in close collaboration with other services (Asphalt Division, Precast Department, Plant & Fleet, Logistics, Procurement, Quality, and HSE) to maintain GCC’s standard of quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tenders/Quotations Participation: Actively participate, in collaboration with the QS team, in the tender process by providing technical proposals.
  • Project Management & Execution: Plan, execute, and deliver multiple small to medium-sized civil and earthworks projects simultaneously, ensuring strict compliance with timelines, scope, quality and budget.
  • Site Supervision & Production: Lead, supervise, and direct site foremen, operational teams, and subcontractors. Monitor daily site productivity, optimise equipment utilisation, and ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Quality & HSE Compliance: Enforce GCC’s strict Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards and Quality Assurance protocols across all operational sites.
  • Reporting & Administration: Provide regular structured progress, cost, and production reports to the Head of Civil & Earthworks. Maintain accurate site documentation, measurement records, and daily logs.
  • Client & Stakeholder Relations: Act as the operational point of contact for clients, consulting engineers, and local authorities during site inspections and progress reviews.
  • Site Handover: Ensure the successful handover of sites until the lifting of all snagging items.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and advise direct reports, and participate in the recruitment and performance evaluation of personnel in collaboration with line management.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in supervising and managing civil engineering and earthworks projects.
  • Education: BT or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent proven field experience).
  • Technical Expertise: Solid technical grounding in bulk earthworks, road construction, site drainage, utility networks, and site logistics.
  • Leadership & Organisation: Proven capability to manage multiple active job sites concurrently without compromising on quality, safety, or productivity.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English and French (written and spoken). Excellent communication in Creole is essential for on-site workforce management. Knowledge of Hindi is a distinct advantage.
  • IT Skills: Proficient in Office and Google Workspace tools (such as Google Sheets, Gmail, Docs, MS Excel, and Word) with a basic working knowledge of AutoCAD and planning software.
  • Licensing: A valid driving license is mandatory.

What We Offer

  • An attractive remuneration package aligned with experience and qualifications.
  • A company vehicle or competitive transport allowance.
  • The opportunity to contribute to high-profile infrastructure projects within a premier construction company in Mauritius.
  • A collaborative, safety-first working environment with long-term stability and professional development.
